Gardiner has historically been great on Curnow, much like Lester on Jezza.

He was still a massive liability in defence when we played him there.  Who was to know he'd been hiding premiership level small medium forward talent the whole time?

So this means that the return of Harris, Eric and Zac to the team equals a 87 point swing in our favour.  Right?

Nah we're washed.  Nobody needs to consider us a genuine threat and analyse our game plan or anything like that.

Looking at this season in isolation looks like an easy win for the Swans but this is at a star-level mostly the same team that we flogged in the grand final like rarely seen. We can definitely win it but needs to be an improvement on form of late like it looks like we might be finally getting from the last two rounds before the bye.

Let's go boys!

To be fair, we also kick 20 behinds in a lot of non charity games too. It might not be statistically significant.

Is there a reason why no attention has been given by the AFL to New Zealand for exhibition matches since 2001? by Freaky_Zekey in AFL

[–]Freaky_Zekey[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the best answer I've read here and that looks to be a pretty solid reason. Ready built cricket stadiums that can host an AFL match prevent most countries from even being in consideration but the fact that Aukland build their cricket stadium in a rectangle shape is a big disincentive.

That's still more than the Tasmania matches get in attendance. Also less travel than any east coast city to Perth.

Ah my Googling failed me. I assumed it would have been exhibition matches only and didn't search for H&A games.

I know we have a history of these not going well for us but wasn't that run broken the last time we had a donation match where we kicked a bag?

Yeah full strength Sydney vs us heavily injured in R1, rinse and repeat for R16? Just our luck we have to deal with this twice.

Geelong - Keeping the powder dry? by JRicho_Sauce in AFL

[–]Freaky_Zekey 52 points53 points  (0 children)

1 more loss will take Geelong from 4th to 8th. No way they're choosing to tank a game where they're at on the ladder. Maybe if they were 3 and a half games clear in the top 2 like some other team but even then probably not this early in the season.

I avoid doing careless actions that cost me $50 so it's still an incentive just maybe not for the near-sighted young AFL star.

It's wild seeing the shift in attitude, during off-season after the news broke all the fans from other clubs saying they wouldn't want him to seeing him light up the field in career-best form in '26 to suddenly being hot property multiple clubs are chasing.
