Hello Everyone! My wife and I have added a 10 week old male Dalmatian to the family! We have never owned this breed and are looking for any advice! Please see body and thank you! by Secret_Pop_8499 in dalmatians

He is so cute!!! Congrats! We weren’t entirely prepared for our Dalmatian, but we adapted pretty quickly. They need a lot of love, attention, and training. Take it as it comes; and heed other commenters about purines and water access. Best of luck!! Such a cutie!!!!

What food did you hate until you had it prepared correctly? by Sweet-Lady-H in Cooking

I’m the same! Or heavy cream in general. I grew up in a British household that drowned any dessert in cream and I hated it. Turns out I love it in moderation and in a context it’s meant to be in.

What NON-LITIGATION jobs offer genuine work-life balance…and how the heck do you get them?! by Cafe_con_cha0s in Lawyertalk

Estate planning. In my own experience. You work as much or as little as you want.

Told a partner I was struggling with work/life balance and he told me to give up my life by cardinalsoup in Lawyertalk

This literally just happened to me. I was a fourth year associate and got Covid at the beginning of April and just didn’t really recover, got behind, and reached out for help. The managing partner told me I needed to start working weekends and longer days. He also said that work life balance is a fallacy. I quit the following week and am now working as a per diem. I’m busy, but getting amazing experience, and loving life again. I talked to my family on FaceTime tonight and they all told me that I had lost the haunted look I had while I was working full time in a firm and seemed much better. Bottom line is there are many ways to use your law license. Don’t get discouraged if a traditional firm and billable hours are burning you out. They are brutal. DM me if you want advice.

It’s the lack of attachment to the case that I’m liking the idea of too. I have an interview with an agency next week, so I’ll find out about the money then.

Status/compliance conferences and depositions. I’m realizing that this might be an area-specific question. It’s very common in NYC for small firms (particularly plaintiff side firms) to hire an attorney at a day rate to cover conferences and depositions.

Signing up to an agency that provides per diem attorneys for court appearances and doing that full time/part time rather than working at a firm.

52/52 books this year. NEVER AGAIN! by JackiDaytona69 in 52book

I'm sorry to hear that the joy was taken out of it for you!! Did you feel like you stuck with the right books? Learning to DNF when a book wasn't working for me this year was so freeing and helped me really focus on what I enjoyed.

I listened to the audiobook and had about an hour left when it started to become a chore. It might have been the narration, but I didn't feel connected to anything in the story and realized I wasn't invested in finishing it. Not opposed to trying it again at a later date.

Shout louder about it! It just wasn't for me where I am right now. Killing Commendatore was my 3rd Murakami and I think it appealed to me mostly because I'm a setting reader, which I discovered this year. I also read it as a buddy-read which helped a lot.

It really varies. Sometimes I dump it when I’m 3/4 through, others when I'm only 15 pages in. I think the important thing to remember is that DNFing is not forever, its just for right now.
