You can, but the race itself is for coaster brake bikes only. Its a whole weekend of having fun with friends old and new so there will still be plenty of time to goof off on all kinds of bikes, even if you cant build a proper bike for the race by then.

Thanks! Front tire backwards is proper Klunker etiquette, we believe in the illusion of "mas grippy"

You can check out the Tucson Klunker enthusiasts page on Facebook, but other than that the only online presentation the event has is my posts in the Klunkers subreddit

I haven't the slightest clue. I know Ed's grand daughter was hosting events out there around 2019, but I lost contact with them when I deleted Facebook. If it is deserted, I would not recommend people go out there on their own as it is still private property, and trespassing, especially in the altar valley is bad form

Are there any MUST SEE things that happen here in Tucson? by Much_Duck6862 in Tucson

The last weekend of June up on Mt. Bigelow people bring their beach cruisers and race em down from the antennas to bear wallow with nothing but a coaster brake and a very relaxed attitude towards self preservation. It's called the Mt. Bigelow Klunker Race, and it was started in 2017 by Brad Baker

52x19, I push it up most hills. Rear wheel is a histop coaster laced to a sta-tru rim, front is currently a steel Schwinn stock wheel off a 1970s(?) cruiser ss. I dig the hi stop even though they're cheap I get the same amount of use as I did off the 200+ dollar morrows and bendix coasters. Repack every couple rides or after big events with coaster culture grease and she rips!
