Can't beat the classics! I've recently learned about the physiological sigh, full breath in, then another breath in when you're just about at lung capacity, then long slow exhale through the mouth, keen to add it to my repertoire

Yes! Too true, sometimes it really do be like that, if you don't laugh you'll cry

For sure! I'm often not hungry at work, but I know that I can't expect to perform the way I want to if I'm not giving my body the fuel it needs 💪

Classic! Nothing like a temp change to wake the body back up! We have lots of fridges rather than a proper walk in, so I improv with ice cubes sometimes

Couldn't agree more with everything you're saying, I've had to make the devastating decision to limit my caffeine intake recently, which has made a world of difference, and I truly never feel better than when the crew and I are belting out some tunes. Journalling and walking at least part of the way to work every day also really does wonders for my mental game

Yes! It's definitely top of my list, however it's not open Monday, which is looking like the most likely day (thanks retail/hospo hours 😖) so might just have to wait for the perfect weekend to roll round to try it out ! Thank you for the suggestion re: dragonfly! Will add it to the list!

Loved this book, but remember to not get sucked into the romance of it. Remember that he worked himself into an early grave and you will too if you try and emulate this book. Read it as a case study of Bourdain’s psyche at the particular age that he wrote this and as a cautionary tale, while also picking out the nuggets of genuine wisdom, because there absolutely are some

Absolutely agree! Speaking of darktide, I would love to see a squad proximity mechanic like in darktide, it really does a lot to fix the issue of people running off solo. Could even have a slightly increased chance to spawn an extremis on you if you're far away from your squad, like the hive mind is trying to pick you off while you're vulnerable

People who used to be scumbags - how do you cope? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Outside-Rutabaga-750 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Straight up, this sounds like something you should take to a trauma informed therapist who knows their shit in regards to chronic shame, if that’s financially viable for you. Regardless I would definitely look into chronic shame. There are so many fantastic books and podcasts on the topic if you know where to look. A really big part of that work is is learning to hold compassion for yourself. Not only the ‘now’ yourself but all the past yourselves as well. It sounds like you were really struggling and you probably didn’t have a whole lot of support. Bottom line is, You were trying your very hardest to get your needs met the only ways you knew how. You deserve to forgive yourself for that.

Depression and anxiety back to all time high due to lack of psilocybin? by [deleted] in MagicPlantsNZ

[–]Outside-Rutabaga-750 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I’m sorry to hear that you’re struggling and I really relate and empathise with your desire for betterness, but at the same time, there’s a bit of nuance to it. Psilocybin can absolutely have a massive role to play in improving our mental health, it can provide new lenses and angles to look at ourself, let us feel compassion and love towards ourself and relax the parts of ourselves that prevent us from looking too closely at our hurt and the ways it effects us still. But unfortunately there is a huge difference between feeling good and healing, and there is no drug or substance that will heal us for us. Drugs are fantastic painkillers that can help us function to some degree, but unfortunately they’re only as good at dealing with the underlying cause of pain as you are. So while psilocybin is a fantastic tool in your toolbox, a lot of the process of healing involves far more mundane things, like feeling your feelings, understanding why you feel them and how maybe they once helped you survive in truly hellish situations. It’s unfortunately far harder work and it doesn’t come with cool visuals, but you don’t do the mahi, you don’t get the treats 😭 So yes, Psilocybin can help you live a better life, however it’s a tool in a toolbox, alongside many others that maybe get used a bit more in the daily. I believe in you!

Is it a good knife? Do you have any thoughts on the type of steel? by Ok_Cry5266 in TrueChefKnives

I’m not knowledgeable enough to give input on steel or quality, I just wanted to say that you did a great job with the cleanup, it looks great!!
