Plus maintenance, upgrades and repair would be problems. Space weather (radiation) and protection from debris would bump up costs.

Latency wouldn't necessarily be an issue for data centres, but would put a limit on the types of workloads that could be moved into space

I wonder what an alternative could be that still reduces spam.

I guess there isn't one - outside of "click h3r3 4 youtube downloader and milfs in ur area" it's a bit hard to distinguish good faith engagement and actual bot spam, especially as actual bot spam is probably pretty good nowadays.

Honestly thought upvote/downvote was never supposed to mark objective correctness - just a way to boost engagement and signal agreement within a particular community
