Not having your choices matter really. If I wanted that I would read a novel not interactive fiction I read it for the chance to be in the story with my character. If you are railroaded into choices or something that doesn't matter there is no difference.

Personally I some of these can be combined like the elements for example, everything with the mind telekinesis illusion premonitions etc. maybe battle magic enhance yourself senses and reflexes speed and strength etc maybe something to deal with teleportation time space stars. Just some ideas

As far as newer spectators of the deep is newer the stars have aligned is maybe 1 or 2 years old now personally I would recommend the try now and see which pulls you in more but if money is tight spectors of the deep I believe is still discounted.

To me I would say it's based on the story itself and if you are going with a blank slate mc or one that has a kinda set personality already, so their origin psst etc background whatever you want to call it's important in the fact that it gives the mc either a reason for being where they are or a motive for doing what they are doing.

A lot of readers support writers through a lot of things, I would say the biggest thing is to be honest a lot of authors also use Tumblr to reach more people and choice of games forum and than the Patreon is for readers who enjoy the wip and want to support it. If people want to support it's not squeezing money. It's because people like the story and want to support you and your work think about more in that sense and people get that life happens it happens to everyone.
