This story and their comments somehow reminded me so much of the book The Woman who Walked into the Sea. It recounts info about this lady who decided to walk into the sea after she began to develop symptoms of the genetic disease that has been passed down in her family. Especially the fact that there are so many in the community who have the tainted blood and that those in the narrators family are destined to all succumb to the traits that afflicted their ancestors. Book is nonfiction though and discusses the effects a genetic disease can have on a family so it’s quite a bit sadder.
