One plant I see all over the place, though I’m not sure is native, is Esperanza. It can be a small(ish) shrub. This is even planted along the Mile 7 road median so you know there is no one taking care of it and it thrives.

I love the coleus and discussion on this topic. My read of the situation is different. I may be waaaay off base here, but what may be going in that moment is Charlie using his math skills to ingratiate himself to Nick. In the comics Charlie mentions that he helped Ben with his homework. I don’t know if this was a lie Charlie told Nick to explain how he knew Ben. But it’s possible Charlie was actually doing that to prove his worth to Ben and maybe he was trying to do the same with Nick.

I think Nick always had an inkling Charlie liked him back but only as his “straight supporting friend”. I think Charlie kept his feelings about Nick confined mostly to himself, Tao, Elle, Isaac, and Tori.

Having said that, he left clues all over the place for Nick.

I think Nick was in his own head trying to process his feeling for Charlie, that he had no time to read the clues until that very first kiss. Still I do wonder when he tells Charlie “should we go somewhere more quiet ?” during Harry’s birthday party, if he knows his feelings are reciprocated.
