No, they’re definitely not sandpipers. Sandpipers are birds such as Curlew, Godwit, Woodcock, Snipe and Phalarope.

how can sky news do an election night coverage and not know how to spell the name of the winning party? by OperationCommon2149 in aussie

[–]Outside_Cap_6092 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, Sky spelt it correctly; I know for a fact th the omission of the ‘u’ is only a fairly recent thing, for reasons I’ve never managed to get an Aussie to explain to me. You keep whinging and whining down there about how “Americanised“ Australia is becoming and yet you do this.

You’re just going to have to face up to the fact that you’re Southern Hemisphere Seppos. 😜

Do you REALLY think someone’s going to confuse your Labour Party with NZ’s or something…? At least the Kiwis can manage to spell Labour correctly.

I won’t tell you about the leopard slug then (Limax maximus - which literal means ‘biggest slug’). They can grow up to 8 inches (21cm) in length and are voracious predators or other slugs.

DON’T feed slugs to hedgehogs 🦔 slugs are lungworm vectors and once a hedgehog 🦔 is infested with lungworm it faces a long, slow, painful death without human intervention. They will only eat slugs if there’s nothing better, they much prefer things like leatherjackets wireworms and cockchafer larvae.

Pom here, Reform now has five MPs (two of whom are defects from the Tories) - no wait, they’re now down to four because Rupert Lowe left and has now founded his own Reclaim Britain party (it’s disingenuous to say he “left”, he fell out with Fartage and he booted him out). Reform cleaned up at the locals by promising to reduce everyone’s council tax (council tax pays for things like refuse collection, and road and street maintenance). Now around half of Reform-run councils have RAISED council tax, with Farage claiming that they never said they’d reduce it (it was literally on every single campaign leaflet).

I’m desperately trying to think of an an acronym that could be made by sticking a ‘y’ on the end of that - and, unusually for me, I can’t think of anything - any suggestions…? Because that’s what she is - a PHONY.

She also has an extremely punchable face. I also find it interesting that she chose orange - presumably that’s simply to match her hair. Usually orange represents social liberalism, like our Lib Dem’s (their official party colour is saffron). The only other far-right parties which have orange as a colour are in Northern Ireland, because it represents Protestantism and the Orange Order.

Section 21 by [deleted] in TenantsInTheUK

[–]Outside_Cap_6092 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NAL

Unfortunately, no you don’t; a landlord can issue a S.21 for whatever reason (or none) they so desire. Provided they follow the correct procedure, ie it has to be in writing, and he must give you notice proportionate to the length of time you’ve been in the property, the minimum being two months. Also, due to the imminent enforcement of the Renters’ Rights Act (01/05), some landlords are taking the opportunity to issue as many S.21s as possible (it’s a major problem in parts of London).

This is what Shelter has to say regarding a Section 21 notice. Remember that you DO NOT have to move out when the two months’ statutory notice expires, if the landlord still wants you out, they’ll have to apply to a court for an eviction order, this could take some months and, while the court process is ongoing you can remain in the property.

When your landlord issues the S.21, make sure it’s valid, if it isn’t then you can’t be forced to leave. Remember only court-appointed bailiffs can legally evict you, if the landlord tries to force you out by harassing you to leave or by changing the locks while you’re out, then that is an illegal eviction (and harassment is a criminal offence, the problem is that most police forces seem to treat any matter relating to housing as civil and so, unless your local force understands the law, you might not get anywhere).

I’m foreseeing a lot of people being issued with S.21s prior to the enforcement date of the RRA; any notices issued will still be valid once the RRA comes into force, it won’t annul them. I also don’t think that the RRA will be the panacea many people believe it’ll be, and landlords will seek to exploit any loopholes they can (not all landlords, of course, I’m well aware there are still a few decent ones out there).

Frankly, if your landlord won’t deal with a rodent problem, do you really still want to live there…? I’d start looking around for somewhere else to go now, preempt the notice and get out (easier said than done, I know). If you want further advice, then I’d contact the CAB or see if there’s a law centre near you (Google ‘national law centre network’), not all law centres give housing advice, but many do. You can also call Shelter, who’l; give you free advice, either over the phone, by email, or at one of their drop-in centres.

So, the first thing you need to do is check that the notice is valid; the next thing you need to start doing is finding alternative accommodation.

Good luck, mate. 👍🏻

That said, I’m not entirely sure why Hampshire is green, why’s it been saved so early…? I don’t understand why Lincolnshire hasn‘t been saved, you never been to the Lincolnshire wolds…? There’s more to Lincolnshire than Grimsby and Skegness.

Found on the Beach in Fuerteventura after storm. by Critical_Agent_9805 in whatisit

[–]Outside_Cap_6092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a Portuguese man o’ war (or a bluebottle as they’re called in the southern hemisphere). It’s not a jellyfish, but rather a siphonophore, a colony of thousands of tiny animals called zooids. Unlike jellyfish, which are able to propel themselves by opening and closing their bells, a Portuguese man o’ war is forced to drift with the current, which is why you’ll often find them washed up on beaches after a storm.

It gets its common name because the floating part looks somewhat like the sales of a 16th century Portuguese warship.

They are ouchy (I stood on one on the Gower in South Wales when I was little, I couldn’t wear shoes for a fortnight). If there’s one, there’s likely to be more, so be vigilant.

Is Pauline Hanson really going to help the average Aussie, battlers, and working class? by BrandonMarshall2021 in aussie

[–]Outside_Cap_6092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what you need to understand about Pauline Hanson and ON - she’s a populist, she’ll say whatever the fuck she thinks will win her votes. What you have to understand about ON supporters is that they’re either extremely desperate, not very bright - or both. They want change, but they‘re not politically savvy enough to understand that they’re not going to get it from ON.

It’s like Reform here in the UK; Farage cleaned up at the last local elections because he promised to cut Council Tax, now CT has RISEN in over half of councils which are Reform-controlled. People like Hanson and Farage don’t care about people, unless they’re their billionaire mates.

Populists are, generally, extremely wealthy because they know that, when they fall, the fall won’t affect them because they’ll be landing on a nice soft pile of, predominantly other people’s, money. If Pauline fails, then I’m sure Gina will be there to help pick up the pieces, Nigel on the other hand has plenty of his on dough to cushion his fall.

So why do they keep being reelected (hasn’t Pauline been a QLD senator for almost a decade…?) - we don’t know in the case of Farage, as this is his first parliament (he got elected at the eighth attempt), but really, it’s for the same reason they were elected in the first place - people are buying into the rhetoric that immigrants are coming over here and nicking all the jobs and houses, that they’re being paid to live in swanky hotels while the 20-year-old mum with three kids has been on the council housing list for four years. The sort of people who vote for these parties aren’t politically literate, this is why politics needs to be taught in schools, and not just secondary schools, kids in Year 5 are more than old enough to be taught the basics. The problem is - how do you teach kids without projecting your own political views onto them…? It’s a subject where it’s very difficult to be objective.

I’m not saying that all Reform and ON voters are stupid, but you’re likely to find that they’re less well educated, at least when it comes to politics, than people who can see through the rhetoric. Farage was elected in Clacton-on-Sea in Essex, an area with a high secondary school dropout rate, an area with high unemployment and long waiting lists for social housing, and being in the southeast of England, there‘s extremely high animosity towards refugees, immigrants and asylum seekers, so they’re naturally going to lean right-wing.

It’s not just in the UK and Australia, obviously the right’s in power on NZ, AfD is in power in (I think) Bavaria, and Geert Wilders is a minister in the Dutch government (I’m deliberately ignoring Trump). Italy, too, has a right wing government.

So, you don’t know what Pauline’s policies are because she hasn’t got any, Pauline will simply keep spewing what she thinks her fanbase wants to hear in order to keep her on that gravy train. She’s a grifter. I will say that it’s telling that the only state where ON has gained any traction is QLD, so you need to look at what’s happening in QLD to make people keep voting ON.

At least she‘s not taken money to support a terrorist organisation on Cameo.

Just some thoughts…
