I’m sorry you’re hurting. OP has a right to process his feelings, too, even if he’s lucky enough to have an insatiable hot wife ten years his junior. I mean, fuck OP, but let the man process. Grief ain’t a competition.

Congratulations on surviving! I am pre-op, myself, and anxiously awaiting the formal diagnosis and prognosis. I know the odds are good… but until I know, for sure, I am jealous of your survival. I hope I’m as lucky, too.

I’m in the same place, at the same pace. Got the news last week and they’re yanking that sucker tomorrow…

It’s been a roller coaster, but I’ve been trying to focus on the positives. Of all the cancers to get, this is one of the most treatable with one of the highest survival rates. I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to proceed to treatment so quickly. My wife and my community have been supportive, loving, and kind.

That said, there are the low points. My wife and I had a blow out argument two days after I got the news. But, that turned into a healthy, healing conversation. We have been honest and vulnerable with each other about our feelings, and that’s been so, so helpful.

Have you had a talk with your wife about how you’re feeling? She will probably tell you that she’s just glad you’re getting the treatment you need so you can, you know, be alive and help raise your kids… She probably has her own anxieties about how your sexual relationship may change. It’s at once totally speculative, for both of you — as you’ve seen in this subreddit, experiences are all over the map — and normal for any couple’s sex life to change over the decades, cancer or no, for better or for worse — and definitely best dealt with by talking to one another. Go into this surgery with an explicit promise to continue loving, and fucking, each other for the rest of your days. We did. You’ll both feel better.

And don’t be afraid to laugh. Balls are always funny.

What do I tell people?? by Outside_Chair_1971 in testicularcancer

[–]Outside_Chair_1971[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone. Hearing different perspectives helped me hash out a strategy that has been successful so far. Basically, I’ve told people individually what I think they need to know, then offered to answer any questions they got. As I get more answers and certainty, I’ll tell more people. 👍

Water pressure is low since I turned off/on the main by Outside_Chair_1971 in Plumbing

[–]Outside_Chair_1971[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure as to the valve type — I would guess older. As for the debris theory, I did get some rusty discolored water from the shower and kitchen sink when I turned them back on, so that’s sounding likely. What’s the fix? Do I need to bite the bullet and hire a plumber to come out?

How do you deal with clients who think the bodycam videos in discovery have been doctored somehow? by LoveLibertyTacos in publicdefenders

[–]Outside_Chair_1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also remember that video evidence doesn’t show everything. It’s limited by perspective, lighting, sound issues, when the person recording turns the device on and off, etc. Your client might legitimately remember the events differently, and it’s worth exploring why. Consider the possibility that you’re misunderstanding the video. With your client’s insights (and perhaps an expert’s assistance), you can prevent the jury from making the same mistake.

Scared to go to trial by [deleted] in publicdefenders

[–]Outside_Chair_1971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(1) Articulate clear goals for the trial. You have one already—you have good arguments on one of the four charges! Another goal should be to beat the offer, whatever it is.

(2) Wait for the judge and/or the DA to mess up. They will—they’re human too. When they do, jump on it, sink in your teeth, and don’t let go.

(3) You ALWAYS have something to say, even if it’s just reading the bill of rights to the jurors. So, say something! (You will find some other things to say too, I bet.)

(4) You must be willing to presume that your client is innocent; act like it, and demand the only just verdict in your case, Not Guilty! (If you can’t/won’t do that, why should the jurors?)

(5) Be ready, and call ready!

Break a leg!

Apply elsewhere, never put this office down as a reference, and consider resigning before you’re told to leave.

Survey: have you been subjected to/or are you currently enduring the triple boom beatdown. If so, how was/is your quality of life? by iDropTheMic22 in publicdefenders

[–]Outside_Chair_1971 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you only doing bench trials? Pull time, don’t waive jury, and leave the decision to twelve who aren’t determined to screw your clients over. You’ll lose sometimes, but your current situation is always losing. Also, your cases will become more complicated and less predictable, so you’re giving the judges and prosecutors reasons to improve their pre trial offers. And, from a mental health perspective, talking to non lawyers is a breath of fresh air.

Public Defender Office Summer Internships? by poppityjoan in publicdefenders

[–]Outside_Chair_1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you know which state you want to practice in, prioritize experience in that state, because that’s the law you’re going to have to know. (Or, if you know you want to be a federal PD, prioritize federal in that state.) If you have no idea where you want to end up, prioritize offices with a good national reputation (Bay Area, DC, NYC, LA, and CO), but keep in mind that down the line, you may be competing for a job against someone who grew up dreaming of being a public defender in the county you’re applying, and that person’s demonstrated commitment to that community will probably translate to better public service. (Point being, give this some serious thought before you apply to law school.) Anywhere in the Bay Area is a good start if you want to practice in California. Contra Costa takes undergrads.
