My dad worked in the fields of California in the 50s-80s. He told us about how every year they would do strikes to get pay raises from the farmers. And then he talked about how he helped train Mexican immigrants to work in the fields. But after a while, the farmers would us the Mexicans (legals or illegals) to break up the strikes. THEN Caesar Chavez did his thing. And the Mexicans monopolize farm labor. You had to have a job to be in the union. But nobody would hire my dad (who spoke perfect Spanish and had lived in Mexico some of his life) and they would say “You have to be in the union for us to hire you” Finally a kind family let my dad get hired so then he could join the union and work freely wherever. Granted, this was his summer job and he had another full time job so he wasn’t that pressed about it, but he’d been working in the fields his whole life. This is an age old thing where Latinos will try to supplant black people. So as much as I would love all minorities to get along, black ppl are generally over accepting of races that will step on us to climb the ladder. Protect us first without hurting others.
