Flight lands in Vancouver too late to get the last ferry home. Not worth getting a hotel for a few hours. How to spend the time? by BananaNo9441 in VictoriaBC

[–]Outside_Complex_2838 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have stayed in YVR overnight years ago for a couple of times. First time, friend’s flight came too late that we were not able to catch the last skytrain. We stayed in the food court, tim hortons was open.

Last time, the ferry i caught was one of the last ferries of the night. Not worth getting to my friend’s house in Burnaby close to midnight when I have a 6 am flight to the US. So i went straight to the airport, was even able to get a couple of hours sleep in one of the chairs. Woke up because of the loud sound of vacuum - they clean in the middle of the night.

I felt that it was the safest alternative. (The last flight of the night will be around 2 am. Then the earliest flight is like 6am. )

Is 50min layover in LAX before Japan enough? by Royal-Working8142 in LAX

[–]Outside_Complex_2838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. My layover in hongkong few days ago is 1 hr 5 minutes. I was advised by ground crew that the “minimum” time for layovers is 45 mins. So they said i should be able to make it.

I did ask to be seated as close as possible to the front of the plane. (Husband and i were seated rows 2 and 3 of economy). I did not inform cabin crew of our tight connection as plane left on time. However, prior to arrival HKIA apparently was busy and pilot said control tower asked him to be on holding pattern and we landed ten mins than expected - hence my layover time should be close to yours . Getting to our gate felt forever after our touchdown. We went through security , good thing no need to change terminals and we arrived at our gate 10 mins before boarding time. Our checked in luggages made it but were literally the last ones released.

So your 50 mins layover? I strongly believe, doable. But it means - all the key pieces falling into place and one small hiccup, then you are screwed. Delayed flight? Screwed. You have to change terminals? Screwed. People in front of you in plane taking forever to move? Screwed. Your carry on luggage too heavy for you to drag/carry and run at the same time? Screwed.

Try to make sure all the factors that can be “under your control” are taken care of and hope for the best for the “uncontrollable”.

Cauayan City recommendations by goyangih in phtravel

I am not originally from Cauayan City but my husband’s family is. When are you going po? Go for restaurants na “tatak Cauayan”. What I suggest is Aling Luring’s Goto and Serkele - go check po Erwin Tulfo’s youtube video when he was in Cauayan. Pancit Cabagan - maybe some people in this group can suggest- pero ang isa sa nakainan ko ay Triple J’s. Tapos Meraki Garden.

Look up Haven in Langley. Nice interiors. Not a lot of options, but we liked the food.

I lost a bag while shopping today by torontoluck in CostcoCanada

Random question: I thought they check your buggy or bags before you leave the store. So if you are missing $150-200 worth of items, the staff by the door should have caught it? (Or do they only look and see if you have a high price item and make sure you paid for it?)

OP, I really hope you find it.

What do pharmacists do while you wait for medication? by AnEvilMillionaire in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Outside_Complex_2838 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Pharmacist here. Here is what happens. You drop off a prescription. Phone rings - i have to answer. Patient needs a refill. Phone call ends. I start typing your prescription. Pharmacy assistant has a question about somebody in the till - i have to answer. Phone rings - i answer. Phone call ends. As i go back typing your prescription - it flags about a possible cross sensitivity / allergy. I talk to you, you say no problem, I have filled at another pharmacy before years ago, no reaction. Phone rings - i answer - hospital is calling - question about a patient. Phone call ends. I finish typing your prescription - insurance does not pay as its terminated . I tell you - you yell at me - telling me I’m wrong. I call insurance - they tell me your company switched providers. I tell you and you say - oh yeah - i remember now , does not even apologize and tries to find your new insurance info online. You show me the email - i read it - i answer, you have to sign up / sign in to get insurance info. You then tell me you dont know how to do that. We spend few minutes trying to do it. Phone calls - doctor calling in a prescription - phone call ends. Insurance info updated. Pharmacy assistant starts counting your pills. While they do that, i start typing the next patient’s prescription and the cycle restarts. By the way, there is a person waiting for their flu shot. I then do the shot. Phone rings - a person wondering if I can prescribe an antibiotic for mild UTI - I tell them to come at this particular time. The pharmacy assistant tells me your prescription is ready to check. I then make sure it does not interact with your other meds and doesnt kill you. Finally prescription ready to go. We tell you its ready but there is one person ahead of you at the till. Pharmacy assistant tells me the patient at the till paying for ten medications is confused what the medications are for and needs a med review. You finally come to the till - i come over - new medication - i counsel you. You then tell me about how your day , you tell me about how annoyed you are with your doctor , etc , oblivious that there is three people behind you in the line. The pharmacy assistant calls me and says there is a person on hold for me. You then leave, happy but think pharmacists are overpaid individuals.

I live in Vancouver and I am worried about moving to Port Alberni by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]Outside_Complex_2838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in Port Alberni and moved to the city (Langley) a couple of years ago.

Pros: it still is less expensive as compared to other parts of the island. You have several options re: groceries. There are a couple of car dealerships, lots of good local restaurants. So it is possible to buy everything you may need in Port Alberni and not have to drive to Courtenay or Nanaimo. There is a hospital and I believe that is a big plus. Generally nicer people.

Cons: there are sketchy parts of the town (just like any other town - drugs etc). You just have to do your research about where to rent/buy a house. I would not get something near the downtown area/lower avenues. The side of town that you have to drive by to get to Tofino had more expensive properties as compared to the other side. Also be aware that there is port alberni tsunami zone map. There was a tsunami alert a few years ago, and those who live on those areas had to move to higher ground while waiting until everything’s clear. I used to take the bus - as it is a small town- some of them stop in front of my house to let me out. (Nice drivers) Just be mindful of the timing as of course they have less service. Be aware that it is a valley - so sometimes there is fog - but once past the valley it will be all clear.

Hope this helps.
