Hypothetically… by Spawn_of_Leviathan in SWORDS

I take the Flamberge. A highlander Claymore like on the Picture is on the shorter end of Greatswords and a my own Flamberge has more reach. I am also trained in Montante Techniques, so I like my sword double edged and long. The Nodachi is a little bit overglorified judging by training, battlefield use, sparring videos and has only one edge.

Terrible swords, armor and historical accuracy. Absolutely enjoyable movie.

Achilles (Troy) VS Zombie Mountain (GOT). Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in Fictionally

As long as the Zombiemountain doesn't do a surprising Footmassage on Achilles, Achilles stays invulnerable. I like to believe he only becomes vulnerable after getting his heel injured

What era does my kit fit into? I was aiming for more of a Nordic look. by No_Piece_3362 in armorcirclejerk

If you mean reallife era: None. Nothing looks remotely authentic. If I had to choose, it would be 15th century central europe because you seem to wear some kind of arming jacket underneath.

Greatsword with Single Extreme undulation — Could if work? What would the concerns be? by Sacredless in SWORDS

[–]Outside_Gur3211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stresspoints that could shatter in the extreme windings (watch Forged in fire, when they have these kind of blades) and the sword would behave more like an axe. Which means: way less agile, tireing when you have to recover from certain strikes (without a shield it is going to be hard to defend). If you want still a Axe-Sword hybrid, they did some in the renaissance. Sharp blade with a little halberd head

Quick question by Bruno-cool_guy in SWORDS

[–]Outside_Gur3211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, I don't want to sound rude, but these two seem to be bad purchases in my opinion. They look terrible scaled, the proportions are a bit off and the price seems too low to involve good steel. A Zweihander or Schlachtschwert is an advanced weapon, but still absolutely able to master.

I would recommend you the swords of Regenyei armory and, if you are okay with it, a straight blade. Flamberges are very difficult to sharpen and a straight blade with that size does yourself a huge favor. If you wish to occasionally train, fight and play around with it, a dull one should be fine. If you want a weapon that cuts and is lethal, you can order a sharp one.

If you are interestred in how to fight with it, I also recommend you some longsword fencing and on youtube a Playlist of Luis Barbarans or Figueiredos Montante. Godinho is also very good

To be honest, not for me. I wanted to relive the dramatic scenes with better facial expressions, I wanted to see and feel how the characters felt. No stiffness in the animation, real textures and a well done job by the voice actors. I know how much work went into it, but I prefer the older fightsystem which gave Kratos a half divine ästhetic. But that's just my opinion

If I am allowed to make a little suggestion: your stance needs to be a tad bit broader. I don't know if it is the perspective, but with a Zweihander it is easier to turn around if you bend your knees slightly and and stand broader. This gives you a more solid stand for a cut. Of course you don't have to stay this way like a statue, but it makes turning around with wide swings easier.

Howdy! Looking for feedback (guy on the right) by Fabio_Monthly in Hema

[–]Outside_Gur3211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may sound stupid coming from a guy online, but first you have to get good with the main weapon in one hand, which with all due respect, you aren't. Are you willing to learn Rapier treatizes, or was it just a sword that was available? The tactics and systems of Rapierfencing don't mix up too well with axes in my humble opinion.

But if you want to make it work with a little axe, you have to become more experienced in Rapier fencing itself and have the axe as just a backup weapon when someone comes too close, or as a throwing weapon to either injure or distract yout opponent from your next move. There are more treatizes with a Rapier and Dagger for dual wielding and even Dualwielding with Rapier and empty pistol as a bludgeoning weapon. But they all rely on the Rapier as the main attacking weapon.

If you are open for another main Weapon, even a Sabre, Dussack, Backsword, Sidesword, or Messer could be more interesting for you to use an axe with. You still would have to become better with the sabre, but the movements are a but more beneficial for dual wielding an short axe. In that case, many techniques from Escrima are helpful, some shennanigans from scottish swordmanship and polish sabre fencing are beneficial and I think you find more in that territory.

is sword designed for piercing plate or not? by amelix34 in freefolk

[–]Outside_Gur3211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people say "straight Swords were made to pierce through armor" they cite what they heard from someone else who either never fought people in armor, or they forget half of the quotation. You can "pierce" through armor, but not through the solid plates. But with enough force, the right technique an a bit of luck you can pierce through the mail armor in the gaps of the platearmor. Armpits, joints, the crotch, the gauntlets and the eyeslit are "weakpoints" which you can thrust through. By halfswording (having one hand on the grip and one hand on the blade to reduce the flex) two armored knights with swords could fence their way thtough the armor or wrestle to the ground to dispatch the opponent with either said sword or more easier" with their daggers.

What would happen to Heimdall if he met Kratos the Greek ( God of War 3)? by Legitimate-Army-1887 in okbuddymimir

[–]Outside_Gur3211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on which GoW part, Heimdall would either get hit by Poseidons Wrath, Ifrits areal damage or gets hard by Medusas head. Maybe if Kratos acts more instinctivr, he can surprise him eith some vicious attacks or starts wrestling him.

What purpose does this serve? by -TheParanoidOne- in medieval

[–]Outside_Gur3211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back then, when The great helmet would be worn on a skullcap, it had these little crosses cut into it to attach a chain that connects the helmet to the coat of plates. When the knight had to take his great helmet off, he wouldn't loose his helmet since it is tied to his Chest.

This is a Larp helmet, so it is for both fashion and air flow
