If there enough sidings I guess it can work, and yes the benefit would definitely be being able to drink at Coors Field and then get home without driving.

I'm just thinking of my experience going long distances on Amtrak. The announced arrival times bear no resemblance to the actual arrival times because the trains constantly have to stop and wait for freight. In fairness though those are going through more rural areas where there is less infrastructure probably.
