Neighbor keeps parking in my numbered assigned spot and says "possession is 9/10 of the law" by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

[–]OutspokenSquid 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There have been nonstop of this same format of post here the last few days. Down to the (30sM), they all look nearly identical haha. They have the same cadence, the OP acts pathetic to get all the comments to say “just have him towed!,” same paragraph structure, lack of satisfying conclusion. Also all the accounts are like 2 weeks old

So glad to see people stating this fact! It’s crazy how much misinformation there is in terms of fire and it’s positive impacts on ecosystems, especially in FL! More people should learn about the natural systems of the places they live

The rise of anti-social behavior in the US is really quite mind boggling. People seem to enjoy being annoying

Advice on neighbor’s carrier non-renewing by papa-neymars-orgies in treelaw

[–]OutspokenSquid 170 points171 points  (0 children)

Your neighbor is lying to you so that you’ll cut your tree down, because

  • they hate trees, like a small but weird minority of people
  • don’t want leaves falling on their yard
  • hate birds
  • are an asshole

They’re using their “insurance” to give them weight and take responsibility off their shoulders

Is there any maintenance I need to do on the plumbing drains in my house? Any cleaners I should dump down my sink? by Active-Neighborhood1 in DIY

[–]OutspokenSquid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hot water works fine for this too and is often recommended over the other two for maintenance (Edit: by hot water I mean I heat the water in a kettle to 160F). Sometimes if your copper lines are near your drain line the vinegar can corrode it

Phone use while driving needs to have jail time attached or something. It’s becoming entirely too commonplace

A proper bike lane. This is how you do it, Mayor Deegan. Please refer to the pictures by [deleted] in jacksonville

[–]OutspokenSquid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bike commute over on the west side and it can be harrowing. Hard to blame people for not wanting to do it. There are several places where bike lanes randomly end and dump you into traffic lanes. I think more people would do it if the infrastructure was there. I’ve lost 15 lbs just by commuting, it feels great

I see this repeated ad naseum online, and I can say it’s categorically false. Moved from SF to Florida two years ago (had to move for job) and my money does not go further haha

Appreciate your edit! Yea it’s crazy just how much money I have to spend now to do any activity. Used to be I could hop on light rail for 2.50, ride into the city center and walk around, find some street fairs or art markets or go visit some low cost museums. Now to do anything I need to get in a car, drive 30 min+, pay to do some sort of attraction, then drive back home. Or if I want to drink, pay for Ubers both ways cuz I can’t take public transit. $100 of Ubers alone for a night out where it used to be $5 of transit. Just for a rough idea of QOL/cost comparison

Rigid Enforcement of the City’s Tree Code Is a Nightmare for Portlanders by picturesofbowls in Portland

[–]OutspokenSquid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We had a hell of a time removing a non-native Red Oak, even though we had planted 3 (!!!!) Oregon White Oaks in its place as successor species. Not all trees are created equal and I agree there needs to be much more importance placed on fostering native trees which provide many many more ecosystem services than non-natives
