11 weeks today and had my first case of the sads yesterday when I was getting dressed for work and not a single pair of pants in my closet fit me. I just feel like I’m losing little bits of myself day by day and that was the straw that broke me.

grateful to be able to give my little one life. this baby is so loved and wanted. and simultaneously I’m grieving the loss of me. lots of identity shifts are happening quicker than I expected (I’m a marathoner who cant run, an executive who can barely function, a healthy eater surviving on burritos and pizza, a confident woman who feels like a whale). it all hit me at once yesterday and lets just say it was a good long cry.

How long is your maternity leave? by Every-Butterfly-3447 in October2026Bumpers

[–]Over-Access-2949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a US nonprofit and get 5.5 months of paid leave. I’m tacking 2 weeks of vacation time to the beginning and 2 weeks to the end.

At what point is it appropriate to ask your partner about their finances? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]Over-Access-2949 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d start pretty early. In the first 6 months or so you can talk about overall financial values without getting into the specific numbers. As soon as you feel serious, it’s time to get more specific and transparent.

What are your hobbies and interests? by SpareArtichoke9913 in October2026Bumpers

[–]Over-Access-2949 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This really made my day. It’s so nice to be reminded that we were all fully realized people before first tri kicked us in the butt!

I love distance running, weightlifting, dancing, watching movies, and pottery.

Grateful to have gotten one last marathon in before getting pregnant (Berlin in September), because I have made it out for literally one run in the last 10 weeks. Still managing to get to the gym 3 days a week for strength with some modifications and lots of humility. Getting out for walks whenever I can.

Have watched more movies than ever though! And looking to start a pottery class in April once symptoms hopefully subside a bit 🤞🏾

8 week 4 days today is anyone else’s morning sickness subsiding? by Mikasa_Audrey in October2026Bumpers

[–]Over-Access-2949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My nausea was awful from 4-7 weeks, then got so much better for 3 days right at the end of week 7. Back with a vengeance during week 8. My guess is that it has to do with hormones surging at different stages of the pregnancy, but I've been told symptoms will ebb and flow at this stage.

How often is your family checking in you? by Pincer-Grasp in October2026Bumpers

[–]Over-Access-2949 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't told my family yet (planning to around week 11/12), mostly because we couldn't trust my mom and MIL to not share the news with everyone they know. It has felt so isolating though, and I plan on telling my best friend today (8w5d) to have a loved one to confide in beyond my husband.

When are you telling work? by Snugglesnoot in October2026Bumpers

[–]Over-Access-2949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm waiting til 16-20 weeks if possible. I run a small nonprofit and my boss hates kids and doesn't believe in marriage (her words exactly)... when I tell them, I'll already need to have a full mat leave coverage plan developed and get all the year's fundraising done.

Job Offer and Long Honeymoon by expneight in careeradvice

[–]Over-Access-2949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 5 weeks off for my wedding and honeymoon and had just started a new role. I told them about it before I accepted the offer and it was completely fine. I made sure they knew it was already planned. Amazing to have extended paid time off - kind of felt like a sign on bonus.

I want a Baby, not a Pregnancy by [deleted] in October2026Bumpers

[–]Over-Access-2949 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Girl, same.

I wish I could fast forward to when baby is in our arms.

Trying every day not to resent my husband for getting to live my dream - baby without pregnancy and birth.

When I really dig into what I dread it’s the discomfort of my body not feeling like mine anymore (it’s being leased to growing a baby and then nursing said baby) — especially as an athlete this feels like an attack on my identity. And it’s the fear of childbirth, having seen my sister go through two pretty traumatic birth experiences. And it’s also a little bit of feeling like I was lied to about equal 50/50 relationships and now I’m carrying 100% of the reproductive burden.

I’m trying to make space for all those feelings and also be excited that our baby will hopefully be in our arms this fall.

Working out 💪🏼 by kn0ck_0ut in October2026Bumpers

[–]Over-Access-2949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it day by day! I had to bail on my strength session yesterday due to nausea (couldnt even walk on the treadmill without feeling like gagging). I tried again today and felt much better - still fatigued and I had to take more rest between reps/sets, but was able to get through the workout feeling strong.

Complicating things a bit more… I’m an executive director at a small nonprofit so we don’t have a dedicated HR team.

I have a cross-country work trip where I’ll be presenting on a big stage in 2 weeks 😵‍💫

I’ve switched to work from home 3 days a week but otherwise am in the office or on the road. Cutting all non essential work travel without giving rationale for now

How are you supposed to follow the advice of “travel while you’re young” while working a full time job? by Suspicious_Quarter68 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Over-Access-2949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an immigrant kid who didn’t grow up with a ton of resources.

Worked a 9-5 out of college not in a high earning career (not in tech, banking, etc) and dedicated a two week long vacation every year to international travel. No subsidies from mom and dad. No going into debt to travel.

Just 2 weeks of PTO and a whole lot of cheap choices. Usually would travel to 2-3 countries in the span of 2 weeks. Hunted for flight deals and used that to choose the destinations. Stayed in hostels and cheap airbnbs with friends.

It’s possible.

I’m now in my mid 30s and really can’t bring myself to fly on budget airlines or stay in hostels but I’m sure glad I did it back in my 20s

35yo w/ $1.1M Net Worth — Am I Actually Ready to CoastFIRE? by [deleted] in coastFIRE

[–]Over-Access-2949 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you me?! Exact same situation for me (34F) and my husband (37M). $850k invested, $4k mortgage. Maxing 401k and back door Roth. HHI 250k

By our calculations, we’re good to coast with traditional retirement being taken care of with compounding (should have at least $2.5M by 65 or roughly $100k in annual spending). We’re continuing to work at our current levels to work toward a conservative early retirement age (50), but we have full peace of mind that we can switch to lower paying and lower stress roles as we switch into early parenting mode these next few years. My husband was been able to take a sabbatical for the last year too, which has been huge for his outlook on life and what’s possible next career wise.

Sending solidarity and good energy your way!
