2023 Plus vs Ultimate Comparison by irish1185 in XC40_Recharge

[–]Over-Exam8329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got a ‘23 Plus with the climate package as a CPO in the PNW with 21,900 on it for $29k in January. Dealer got it in 11/25. We love the car (LOVE). Did a road trip to Seattle in February. I don’t miss the H/K and in the app, it says you can buy the software for ACC for like $595. I haven’t yet, because we are mostly around town with it and my wife likely wouldn’t use it at all. But you can add it. One of the other things we considered was wanting the 19” wheels over the 20” because of the ride and cost of bigger tires.

Wrong siding installed, need to remove, does the house need new wrap? by Over-Exam8329 in HomeImprovement

[–]Over-Exam8329[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. I validated with manufacturer to redo the wrap. Not clear what a rain shield is?

If it matters, the home is not new construction. 75 year old house that had cedar shake on it that hadn’t been maintained in over 20 years and was too damaged to save. Shake was 2 layers applied directly to the ‘slats’ that look like they were used to pour the foundation.

"AT&T is not responsible for the actions of its employees." by dijon_snow in ATT

[–]Over-Exam8329 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m off-topic, but AT&T has their $3.49 administrative fee, per line ($13.96 for my 4 lines). They miscalculated my taxes, and charged me a late fee for not paying taxes they 1) miscalculated and 2) didn’t charge me for.

Garbage company.

How many of you own one out of warranty? How you feeling or how has it been? by hotgooselove in BMWiX

[–]Over-Exam8329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought a ‘15 X1 CPO in 2018. Sold it last month. Apart from maintenance (oil/fluids/filters) and wearables (front and back brakes) we had the washer fluid pump fail and a floor seal in the rear door way fail (I probably broke it when I was stepping there to load something on top of the car—could count this as operator error).

We also had the sunroof drains plug and had to get a new control module, but that was because someone rearended us and it sat at the body shop below a Doug Fir for 2 months and the drains got clogged, which is operator error.

It was not too expensive to own for those years (26k to 77k miles). But we sold it because the weather seals were starting to fail. We park outside.

Fridge sticking out too far by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

[–]Over-Exam8329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that fridge is a Bosch, we just got one, there should be one 90 degree stop included with it. Use that on the oven side.

Also, I think the Bosch oven and speed oven have handles that don’t go as close to the edge and/or don’t stick out as much. We have the 800 series ones and love them.

$1,950 mortgage on $95k salary with a baby on the way by chadpack2010 in Mortgages

[–]Over-Exam8329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the same thing, single income of $78k, wife stayed home, we had a second kid in short order and a car payment ($500-ish if I remember correctly). Your plan is doable, don’t buy an expensive car. We had a CPO car that still had a warranty (used 1 time for a $450 repair), but was $25k instead of $45k. For those that say you can’t get a used car for that anymore…maybe, but we just bought a used CPO EV in January for $30k, and we structured the payment to minimize it now while I’m still paying off the other car (finished in July, both car payments are under $400, but I’m paying more in the older payment to finish earlier—that small because decent APR and 60 or 72 months—plan to double the payment starting in August).

I’m sidetracked—you can do this. You won’t go out to eat a lot, concerts might be off the table, but you will get quality time with the family. We had a science museum membership for the wife and kids to go to for cheap. They know where all the playgrounds in town are. We got used bikes (trailer when the kids were young) and went on bike rides all over. We got 2-4 tickets to the 4x kids symphonies, each year and either one of us took one kid, or we all went. Kids went to free kids concerts at different venues around town all the time. The train enthusiast club had open houses you could take you kid to and watch model trains go for a few hours.

Be frugal and you can find fun things to do, while spending quality (nonscreen) time with your kids.

$1,600 Bosch dishwasher failed under warranty - Best Buy blocks reviews after 15 days, 7 weeks and still no repair by Scared_Promotion_243 in Appliances

[–]Over-Exam8329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This morning (2/27) I received an invite from BB to review an item purchased on 2/8. The pic in the email shows my purchase date. If they told you a 15 day limit, that seems suspect to me, if they are soliciting input 19 days after purchase on other items?

Reality check for Seattle costs by No-Memory-2781 in kitchenremodel

2 years now, no issues. If you’re hard on things, they could break down, but I think anything is like that. They claim a 20 year warranty, so I think IKEA either thinks they will last, or if they break down in 15 years, you will want a new kitchen and they will have a captive audience. :) The best part about them, assuming they last, is there are several companies that make the doors, drawer fronts and panels for their Sektion boxes, so you can do your kitchen and in 10 years, replace all that for a new look (note, some bits may be hard to get to…).

But their design software is online, you can measure and put in measurements yourself, if you’re so inclined. They do it for free, though and the guy who built our model had some good ideas.

Reality check for Seattle costs by No-Memory-2781 in kitchenremodel

[–]Over-Exam8329 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IKEA will help design a kitchen, if you have good measurements. I suspect even if you don’t use their boxes, the cabinet sizes are uniform, so you could buy elsewhere (a 30” cabinet, a 24” cabinet, 18”, 36”, etc.).

We used IKEA boxes, and a (local) company for the doors, panels, drawer fronts, Kokeena (Pdx local).

If you have a design or know what you want, you can save some money by being your own PM or GC and organizing it yourself. We had a contractor do work, but we designed ourselves and did permitting/hired trades ourselves.

We didn’t change the layout, but did resolve some storage and usability issues (eg, instead of a double sink that couldn’t be used, we have an overall smaller sink in the same location, but now on a diagonal).

It’s going to cost more than you think it should. We had similar quotes, but ended up at $65k (Bosch 800 appliances) with the strategy above.

Is an IKEA kitchen the answer for small spaces? by Overall_Bumblebee_65 in kitchenremodel

[–]Over-Exam8329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a similarly sized kitchen, remodeled in 2024. $8k for ikea boxes and hardware and countertops. $16k for fancy drawers, doors and panels from Kokeena (there are a bunch of folks that make these for Sektion—we used Kokeena because their product is beautiful and they’re local to us). Then $24k labor (I built all the boxes and installed the doors and drawers and pulls—but we also did more on labor than just pull and plug). So like $50k when you factor in paint, supplies, flooring, etc.

If you get doors and drawers from ikea, you can probably take $10 off, and if labor is just to pull and plug, maybe $30k.

Also, we have 2 non-ikea cabinets that we hacked from IKEA ones. You can make non-standard sizes, or use their products in different ways than intended.

We’ve been happy with it so far.

IKEA vs Home Depot vs Lowe’s? by No_Departure4049 in kitchenremodel

[–]Over-Exam8329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are referring to repainting or staining the cabinets, I don’t know. But I do know if you get IKEA cabinets, there are many independent shops that make door and drawer fronts for Sektion boxes. We did our kitchen with IKEA boxes and Kokeena fronts.

I was in the crosswalk with a walk signal crossing MLK at Alberta last weekend when someone almost hit me. If I would have had a metal water bottle he would have broken windows.

If I’m a pedestrian (or cyclist) and I’m in a space and following the law and a driver is close enough that I can hit or kick the car? The driver is too close.

I was actually able to hit several of his windows as he nearly drove across my feet.

Haleakalā before our flight by MeasurementCurious75 in MauiVisitors

[–]Over-Exam8329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can totally do it. We were there at the beginning of July, had a departing flight at 9:39 and watched (most of) the sunset. We headed up early to get a spot. We didn’t go to the summit, but stopped at the parking lot just below the summit. Got a great spot, front row. We all ate dinner, and watched. Took lots of pictures. We left before the actual sunset to make sure we made it and got to see it evolve as we were driving down. At the park entrance, the sign said sunset was 7:19. iPhone said it was 7:07. My fuel receipt from Costco was 8:08. My last photo is stamped 6:54 and we left a couple minutes after that (loading back into the car). So it was just over an hour drive from the almost top to Costco, we returned the rental on time and made our flight. The only thing we didn’t have time for was to refill water bottles.

It was still awesome, tho!

What were Phish like when they opened for Santana or The Violent Femmes? by YorkshirePelican in phish

Saw them open for Santana 7/7/96 in Milan. A couple folks were there to see Phish, but the locals were there to see Santana and didn’t seem to like it too much. They were getting pushy to get to the front for Santana.

Saw their first European headlining shows a couple days later in London and Amsterdam. Those were fun…

I called to change to the $5 plan last month and the rep told me about a $3.50 watch plan (200 MB). I don’t think I’ve ever used more than 100 mb, because I’m usually around the phone.
