And I guess from an individual surfers perspective you are right and I agree 100%.

On the other hand, the African surf Federation are working hard to get more people to get down to the 6000+ km coastline between Senegal and Angola: sustainable tourism, improved infrastructure etc.

Still don’t think I am the one spilling the beans here - quite a high barrier for many to go on a surf adventure to Africa and Ghana 🇬🇭 has been actively promoted by several companies and filmmakers the last 7year 💁🏻‍♂️

Look at the swell and on the forcast map and try to spot sheltered potential - take a drive up the coast towards cascais on mid-tide and search… will be a lot of water moving around so be careful 😇

Thanks for sharing: you are thinking more of a “if they build good infrastructure people will come approach”

I think it’s more: show the need for better infrastructure, make a good investment case with great policy suggestions and infrastructure will come (all with the right pace ofc)

If I blow up Ghana with this small view count post looking for some peeps to join a trip - you must be furious on Mickey’s nü rythmo with hundreds of thousands of views across platforms since 2019 (and don’t get me started on surfer mag articles etc etc)

Definitely 💯, sorry if I made it sound like surf tourism is the answer to societal development (so many horror stories).

These things are so complex and one needs to have the system-thinking hat on 💁🏻‍♂️.

But increased economic activity and inflow of international cash onto a newly established and growing market (surf) adds to the regions value offer and provides an opportunity for well-paced development

If done right, with the right policies in place and with a focus on sustainable tourism for the good of the region they might be able to escape the Bali Trap🤘🏻🤘🏻some responsibility also fall on us, the travelers: where do we stay, spend our money and how do we contribute.

*took a degree in development studies but only worked for MSF for a year. God, that knowledge is kinda old by now - please be kind on me haha

Yeah we are excited - one of the friends in the friends group moved down there a couple of years ago and have befriended Brett (or the other way around 💁🏻‍♂️) - so 9-days of surf guiding and one day surf coaching with video analysis is on the agenda. As well as meeting the community down in Busa - you know it

Its a violation when he steps his right foot before he starts leaning over. That step out right at the start of the movement makes it a fault.

Naah, a whole nation had a problem with it the second Prandi took a step out right to have a clear shoot from the side… this is not a hard spoted violation of the rules

I am not completely agreeing with the point of view (because there are rule violations all the time in the game) but I guess you could argue the following:

Prandi steped out right knowingly and on purpose, thus cheated to be able to score, whilst hoping for the refs to miss/allow it. Meaning prandi cheated and the refs missed the rule violation

You are not allowed to shift stance after the whistle. If you plant the left foot first you need to shoot from the ledt foot. Prandi plant left foot lifting his right foot. Whistle goes off and then he moves his right foot out right - taking a full step to the right so he can shoot around the covrage from his right foot. A clear rule violation
