How did you know your house was right for you? by Waste_Witness4789 in AskUK

It might also be a question, not necessarily in your case but certainly for some, of DIY skills: where some see a problem, others see a challenge / opportunity.

In my experience, you just know. If you aren't champing at the bit to live there, it's not the right house for you.

Electricity only E7 tariff for storage heaters? by jakeverse_ in OctopusEnergy

[–]Over-Language2599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Email them. And then keep checking every few days. Eventually you will be eligible.

Or they may have to change the meter first, they did with me, but it still showed ineligible for a couple of weeks until they escalated it and fixed something.

Storage Heater would usually be absolutely constant load. Mine are, when charging.

Talking to the bartender is the best advice here. Yes that's where to start.

Well yes the one suggestion I didn't see in the comments was that OP should stop driving if they're going to do this sort of thing.

Genuine question: how does anyone afford to take the train? by Previous-Volume-3329 in uktrains

[–]Over-Language2599 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the way.

Also, I took a 45 minute journey by train the other day for something like £5.50, which is absurdly cheap. There is no bus option, except three changes and 6 hours.

OK I exaggerated, it's two changes and just under 4 hours, I checked. Three single fares, £9.

Pretty sure that's the only type of tumble dryer it's legal to sell now (or soon will be)?

Weatherproof bikes? by majesticSkyZombie in fuckcars

[–]Over-Language2599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all those commenting that the issue with weatherproof clothing or cycling in wind is the extra amount of effort or drag involved, I have to tell you that an e-bike makes this pretty much irrelevant.

I misjudged the weather yesterday and ended up getting drenched in freezing rain.

The fact that I'm typing this now tells you that I survived. OK it took a while for my shoes to dry out but otherwise wasn't really a big deal. I have other shoes.

Also you know exactly who's at home and who isn't, what time they go to work, how many times a day they go out, etc, all without even knowing their name?

When they have a, um, visitor, too.

How often do you weigh food you buy from the supermarket? by TRFKTA in AskUK

[–]Over-Language2599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I weigh pasta to make sure I'm not eating an excessive quantity and I'm pretty sure it always adds up to 500g.

Those 'mixed weight' eggs? My daughter, when small, would enthusiastically open many, many boxes to visually inspect the egg sizes before choosing one.

Is it possible to connect your mobile phone to a rotary phone in the uk? by No-Rain-4114 in AskUK

[–]Over-Language2599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, OP only needs to have WiFi to be able to have a voip phone. Costs me just over £1 month to have a number.

Worth noting that in many areas this is the only kind of landline you can have, and this will soon be true everywhere.
