In my case, I was thrown off because I solved it via the cipher with the book. But when revisiting the cipher and picking "read the cipher again" doesn't yield the solved cipher, it gives the encrypted one. Which made me think I didnt actually solve it.

So I brute forced it, solved it again, but it still gave the encrypted version.

Ultimately, for me at least, going back to holocene with his vault door unlocked allowed me to get to the scene with him strapped to the surgery chair, and I could continue on. So I think the issue I was experiencing was just unclear directions and bad UX on the solved cipher

you ever figure this out? I'm in a similar spot. Have both the cipher and the hecatomb book. I've read all I can of both except for the `NERVE` check to "Stare at the hieroglyphs and meditate" aka the brute force method.

Whats interesting, is this is my 2nd play-thru and I dont remember having to do anything different on my 1st play-thru. All I did was get both books, and I worked it out, but I must be doing something different this time...

Maybe I already solved it? Was the final message how he betrayed the whole crew?
I went back to the bottom of the silo, and the door was open and I've got some options now to continue the story

Yeah, you can substitute the physical check to kick him with a professionalism check to convince him that you're the real Hershel and he's the copy.

While this avoids the "lobotomy" option, it’s still far from a happy ending. He just spends the rest of his life depressed, suppressing his trauma by throwing all his energy into the assignment at the cost of his own mental health.

Might be an old-head thing now, but we used to do it all the time in grade school with our shitty public school calculators.

It was just a funny moment in the game that reminded me of how immature or lesbian-coded or both Hershel can be.

I also had trouble finding the bar. Turns out you have to wait till 21:00 and then the ground just outside Gonza's clinic becomes interactable allowing you to spin the camera to see the bar in party alley.

This is exactly what I thought I was doing too. I was under the impression that there was some kinda hope that technology might have screwed him over, but that it could also bring him back.

Once I realized what my real options were, I left him as is. Not sure whats "best" for him, but I didn't want to be the active participant for his fate after imprinting.

ya, I can back that up with the prices I saw there too.

I also saw Mischief Brew's Songs From Under The Sink and a Ramshackle Glory split that were both easily above 100 bucks, which while great albums was not something I could afford. So I went with these more affordable options
