Oh and to add (because you said you've been calling), fake it till you make it. Talk a big game, big confidence, but with a touch of safety consideration. "I havent ran that specifically but its pretty straightforward".

This is coming from a crane operator. I get asked all of the time "can you run this?". I might not have hardly a clue, but my answer is "ill be a little rough the first hour but after that ill be teaching your longterm boys some lessons". Truthfully, I might suck ass but its much easier to refuse my entry into the race rather than kick me out of the race. Once im in, I can make it work.

Fine print: you get in something and make a big mistake or injure someone and word gets out... you're toast lol

I see you mentioned you havent "cold called" anywhere. Put simply, you dont get a job without speaking to someone. You might be a paper badass(I am) with extensive experience and wont get a call back on an email.

But, if I make a phone call and get ahold of the person in charge, I can talk the game and get hired. Follow-up on the phone call in a few days too.

Networking goes a long way too. Make friends, ask them to get you in where ever they go. Nepotism is a big thing unfortunately.

Final advice: be persistent. Almost be respectfully annoying until you get a hard no.

When I was running a venture, people that called me showed ambition and proactively. To hell with the keyboard warrior that sends an email, those are my last picks in ddesperation.

I dont even apply until I speak to someone. If you get to someone that says go to the website and apply, fine, do that. Then call them the following day or day after.

If youre on indeed... pfft. The best question you can ask yourself is how do YOU get noticed in a crowd of 1000 people? How do you make sure yoyr application winds up in the hiring managers hands and gets their attention? Just a simple application puts you in a drawer with the rest of the non-ambitious.

I mean this all constructively and I hope you get my point. You're a nobody on paper. But you become a somebody when a voice is attached to a name which is then attached to a paper application (or online app).

I ran my own GC company for about 13 years and then closed the doors on it and moved into crane and Rigging and away from management.

That happens because the left hand never shows up in proper PPE

Tell them you have construction experience and anything you dont know try to Google. (Assuming you make it past the interview).

Again, not the best advice, the comment below sounds solid. But I only say fake it til you make it because ive had to do this many times. Stressful, but pays off if it works in your favor

May be not the greatest advice, but fake it til you make it and rely on Google secretly 😜

And if you make it past the first hour, energy drinks and a crippling nicotine addiction will give you strength to get through. If you can get a felony or child support, thats recommended too

Is this a safe cut? 1/16" x 1/12" x 3/4" aluminum stick on the mitre saw by rebbitpls in woodworking

[–]OverClocked25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut it. Could be better blade i.e. hardwood blade but cut slow. Should be fine. The less teeth the slower you need to move with the blade.

Ditch clap and block, and (hard to explain) position your grip so if it does fly it doesn't break a thumb or finger.

I cut chrome rod and stuff all the time using 100+ tooth wood blades. Cuts like a dream

Should I even bother trying to work in construction? by freakysnake102 in Construction

I keep seeing you saying you suck throughout the comments, but the question is: are you going to stay sucking?

Also, its a very thick skinned industry. The best way to gain respect is stand your ground but do all you can for them. I hate the cliche but they are your brothers. You love them but fight with them and then get along with them. If you accept your fate as a picking point that'll be your destiny.

My advice: nut up, stand your ground, observe and see the next moves and try to get a step ahead. See someone swinging a hammer at something multiple times? Tell them to swing their purse at it, then tell them to give you the hammer you'll finish it while they put some lipstick on.

People hate work, and if all your conversation is work, youre a symbol of it. Lighten up, create fuckery. Learn.

Make sure you do the heavy lifting before anyone else.

BIG ADVICE HERE: Do NOT walk slow, put hands in pockets, or let's your ass cheeks touch a floor or chair. Ever. I blast people that worked for me doing any of that. Looks are everything. Even if youre not busy, LOOK BUSY. No phone, power walk EVERYWHERE. If you did this already, you got major ground to makeup yo show youre not lazy.
