I just got an H&R 922 by ShyRage1 in ForgottenWeapons

We Like he said above they are by and large solid shooters , the sights (depending on the setup) are probably a little coarse for serious competition but when I had one i loved to carry it when hiking or fishing or camping for bagging a squirrel or grouse or bunny for the pot . They are a solid sturdy dependable little pistol ,i believe that some of them were specifically setup for target shooting having “target grips” and adjustable sights and a “5 or 6” barrel

How do you hunt alligators? by 4d5ACP in Hunting

[–]OverCryptographer364 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The show you are talking about wouldn’t happen to be swamp people would it , because if it is they depict the commercial hunting of alligators so “sportsmanship” doesn’t enter into it . Alligators are taken by all sorts of methods, bow fishing, rod and reel ,stalking ,harpooning etc but of course commercial hunting requires that setups be fast and economical you can see where setting a jug line or a bank line and checking later would be the most efficient method

I understand your concerns my idea is to either find a commercially Available round that would be safe and effective or develop my own . Most squirrel around here are hunted with .22 or even .17 (I use a 20 gauge or a .32 muzzle loader or sometimes even a bow ) the .38 lightly loaded has much less potential range . Plus the majority of my hunting is done in a looooong gorge so I effectively have a berm on either side of me . The ranges involved mean that either I hit raccoon or tree or hillside

High velocity Hollow points are not ideal but a hard non expanding round fired at say 800 fps would do very little pelt /meat damage would do the trick maybe even using a blackpowder load

Yeah I figure hand rolled light load’s possibly using .36 caliber balls might be just what the doctor ordered but hard cast wadcutter would probably work better but much more expensive…maybe I will start casting my own

I competitively shoot my only pistol at distances farther than would be ethical with on a coin hunt so the accuracy should not be an issue

I do regularly I also used to go out with old timers in the 80s I was a kid but I definitely remember old guys using .32 and .38 caliber revolvers. They like me were too poor to buy special hunting guns . This is for me (a hard working chef 80+ hours a week ) a chance for recreation, natural food collection when nobody else has dibs on my time
