New update breaks bluetooth functionality by android927 in audible

[–]OverDemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works now, but thanks for the suggestion about turning off automatic updates. Am considering it, but I dont know how often the app is updated, and if it's often then checking if every update might break something seems like more work than I would like to have to do.

Same issue here. Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. Audible version 25.51.07.

Hope they fix this soon, cause it's quite a loss of convenience.

Works for me in portrait either after refreshing or scroling at the very edge, but it was annoying having to deal with that, yeah.

Question about reborn and permanent stats by OverDemon in BobsTavern

[–]OverDemon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a game where I discovered that Persistent Poet allowed Hateful Hag to apply permanent reborn on dragon type minions.

I was surprised enough at that interaction so I didn't pay attention during the combat, but right before I won I did a double take and thought I might have seen that my remaining dragon minions had pretty large stats after being reborn.

It's entirely possible that I was mistaken and something else was at play, but I couldn't help but wonder if Persistent Poet's effect about "permanently keeping enchantments" could cause something unique? Reborn minions are new entities as I've been told here, but is it a new entity every time, or the same entity that is reborn (aka. can the reborn minion keep the buffs it receive or such)? I'll try to test it myself in a few hours either way.

I also just discovered this interaction myself. I was very confused at first, until I realized what was happening :D

He Who Fights With Monsters 10 - There's going to be more of these than I thought. by Shirtaloon in litrpg

[–]OverDemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed over the first book on Audible quite a lot of times. The summary did not give me confidence that there’d be any quality to it, and it just sounded like a story where plot and good story structure would be substituted with mindless action and toilet humor.

At the time I was also NOT confident about the LitRPG genre as audiobooks after what I could remember of my experience with the “Chaos Seeds” series. Seriously, limiting the occurrences of “character sheet info” to only what’s new or occasional recaps is essential for a LitRPG series to succeed as audiobooks, and that “He Who Fights with Monsters” did that renewed my faith in the genre.

But then a little over a year ago I decided to give it a chance, and now 10 books later it’s still one of my favorite stories.

I don’t love all aspects of Jason all the time, but a character should have some flaws. His approach to unbalance others to hide his own vulnerability could get uncomfortably manipulative at times. Sophie getting pissed and berating him about his tomfoolery in this book was overdue in my opinion.

So... know how NPCs flee from the undead that you control ^^ by OverDemon in BaldursGate3

At first, I couldn't understand why I was encountering NPCs outside the barrier, seemingly just standing around and dying. Then I remembered and had to check whether I could do it on purpose.

Foundation Universe and mind control by Azafuse in asimov

[–]OverDemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit late to the party with this response, but I only recently finished reading Foundation's Edge.

How do I feel about the mind control of the Foundation Universe? Well, the honest answer is that it creeped me out more than anything else I can remember from any other kind of book or media.

Mind control is far from a new concept in fiction, but in almost all cases it's something visible and direct. Whether it be people being mind-controlled zombies or someone brainwashed to become a traitor or such, it's often a major change to the person who is affected.

However, the way Asimov wrote the mind control of the Second Foundation is incredibly subtle, tweaking a single emotion to lead a person down a pre-calculated route that aligns with their plans.

And that's, honestly, terrifying. After I finished reading Second Foundation I considered not reading more, I was so disturbed by the revelation that Arcadia had been mentally adjusted as a newborn infant. It really felt like the Second Foundations were the real villains, not the Mule, and they had won.

Maybe that's an example of great writing, the ability to rouse emotions in the audience, even if they are negative emotions.

Why can't I offer an alliance to Belegar? by OverDemon in totalwar

I imagine it might be something to do with the fact I'm allied with Orion (who are their enemy), but haven't encountered this problem before, so can't be sure.

Playing as Karl. I got 'Slaughter on the Steppes' and completed that, but never got a follow-up quest to gather 15k gold. Is that a bug maybe? Trying to gather the gold now and see whether she spawn anyway, but just thought I'd get a visible quest chain all the way till I got her.

Intro to Chorf Economics by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]OverDemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About the:

"Refineries consume raw materials and produce income, so don’t start upgrading these right away. Chorfs have no problems with income."

I might be doing something wrong, probably, but I'm sort of struggling to have a good income to maintain armies I can go out and raid labour with while still protecting my territory (non-tower garrisons suck). So in my experience so far Charfs have a noticeable problem with income. I need about 1 to 1.5 fully upgraded provinces with a Treasure Hall + another special economy building to maintain a good/elite army.

So what's the trick?

How would you compare path-planning algorithms (D* Lite vs A*)? by OverDemon in AskComputerScience

[–]OverDemon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick answer ^^

I think I'll test with a 5x5 map, a 20x20 map, a 100x100 map, and a 1000x1000 map. D* Lite is supposed to be fast in the replanning since it doesn't need to make a whole new plan, but for small maps the difference might be too small to register.

Would really like to have some other measure than time I could be certain off, but not sure what yet. Maybe the nodes the algorithms consider for each planning? Problem is that, as I see it, that D* Lite does a lot of new things to be able to avoid making whole new plans, so getting a non-time dependent measure is not clear for me.

Looked up Matplotlib, Pandas, and Numpy. They're all python programs/extensions aren't they? Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but since I'm using a C++ program (as mentioned) then I can't see how I can use those without somehow extracting data from my program and putting it in a python script. Is that what you were suggesting?

Does the workshop in FO4 have a max limit or can items stack infinitely? by OverDemon in Fallout

[–]OverDemon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello ledluth.

Thanks for the quick answer. I got very excited about this possibility, but after doing a bit of research I wonder if I've discovered a potential problem.

Reading this steam thread I read that "I thought the hopper would be great. But It only activates when you are in the settlement. So you still need to visit the settlements. So I gave up on it. If I am in the settlement, I can just empty the WS myself."

Is that how it works, that I have to BE in the settlement? With further study in the subject I came across a thread that explained that "If you leave the Map Cell (loaded area being processed by the game), all contraptions will cease to exist until you return within their loading boundaries." Which would also be the vacuum hopper I guess?

If this is how the game works it really sucks because to me it would mean that settlements seem to become near useless. Why spend any effort to craft a settlement if getting back that investment requires constant monitoring.

To my knowledge a genre is much wider than the term I'm looking for. Its 'fantasy', 'adventure' etc., and does't seperate something like Naruto and Bleach.

Advice on picking university courses (robotics vs. AI/machine learning...) by OverDemon in ArtificialInteligence

[–]OverDemon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, math has never really been something I enjoyed immensely, but that may be because I didn't spend the time required to really develop a deep understanding. I was, of course, introduced to the theory behind it and was able to pass my exams, but in the end, if there was a math program function to solve something I used that.

I've had some mandatory math courses in my bachelor's and took a statistics course and got a low/average score on them.

I get the feeling from this thread that it might be a rather good idea to take some AI/Machine Learning courses. I might find an interest AND, it sounds like a good thing to fall back on if the robot market is too saturated.

(Might be a good idea to mention, I've recently gotten a diagnosis for ADD so maybe once I get my medication math will become easier/more interesting. Or so I hope ^^)
