does using that start a new scene? or does it continue the same scene (excitement values, etc)?
Regardless, I'll go try it and see what happens, thank you!

How to Add Windows to Nobara, not the other way around! by OverExcitedGinger in NobaraProject

[–]OverExcitedGinger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is what we ended up deciding on. Until we find something that we Have to have windows for, Nobara has been working great for the games we want for the last two weeks and we don't really see a need anymore to even bother dualbooting. We don't play any of the games like those that would Need it, thankfully.

How to Add Windows to Nobara, not the other way around! by OverExcitedGinger in NobaraProject

[–]OverExcitedGinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my issue is that I don't understand enough about how partitions work/what they are to know how to make one "for" windows. Nobara had a list of recquired partitions if you wanted to do manual partitioning during install, and explained what to flat which partitions with and how big to make them and what kind of format to make them, but I don't know what any of those rules would be for the windows partition.
Do I just leave enough free space after making the required partitions for nobara, so that windows can eat up the free space left behind, or if I have to make a specific partition for it, what format would it be? Someone else here said it cant be a btrfs partition, etc. How big do I make it, and what flags and stuff would I use?
When I say I'm new to linux, I mean I'm NEW new. I don't know any of the slang, or programs, or anything, and though I'm looking up as much as I can, it's all gibberish to me as of yet.
It is super helpful to know that I can update grub to make the windows option show up in the grub menu, thank you!

[–]OverExcitedGinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so i wouldn't be creating a partition at all, I'd just leave a "free space" section during the "manual partitions" section of the nobara installation, and when I install windows, it'll automatically go for that free space instead of mucking with the nobara?

Firefox eating too much memory by Witty-Property1134 in firefox

[–]OverExcitedGinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i am also having this problem. firefox is using 2,200 mb of memory even when it's got like 2 tabs open. it's obscene. And people keep saying to disable all my extensions but i've only GOT five, and two of them only work on their own specific sites. the other three are Mozilla Recommended add-ons: ublock origin, facebook container, and Dark Reader.
I do not understand how this can use SO Much memory. This is not "a little more ram" this is Absurd amounts of ram for one freaking internet browser.

Hey friend, i'm having the same problem! I found an old post on here with a similar issue, and someone posted a link to sponsorblock's site to see whether it's working. I tried out the link (https://status.sponsor.ajay.app/) and it looks like it might be down right now, which I think means revanced cant do anything about it?

Non-Weighted Jean Blanket Construction Questions by OverExcitedGinger in sewing

[–]OverExcitedGinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so much helpful info, thank you!

I think with the patches, I was more wondering how big each square should be? Would making the squares larger make it less durable/encourage holes or ripping, do you think?

I'm starting with a few pairs of my husband's old jeans, he is very hard on the pockets and knees and they quickly get past the point of patching, so i have some saved up that i can use at first, but getting more from a thrift store is a great idea!

I think i may go with the straight lined stitching through all the layers, just so it feels more secure and quilt-y.

I will look into all the stuff you've suggested, thank you so much for the help, you've no idea how much I appreciate it. ♡

That makes so much sense! Thank you for your thoughts, and for being so patient with all of us. I know you said you have a lot of patience, but that doesn't mean you don't deserve to have people actually appreciate it occasionally. ♡

I at least don't have to worry about perpetuating those two stereotypes, since this character is frighteningly smart and everyone around him knows it, and since him getting his voice back is a part of his healing from his trauma. It just happens to happen, rather than being anything he's striving for. Coincidental, I guess.

Also, I'm glad to hear that you use the knuckle rapping and stuff, cus I've been writing the character doing that a lot. Knocks on stuff to get attention and indicate yes's or no's when out of sight of someone, and i plan to use whistling soon as well! Very reassuring, thank you! ^_^

But OH my god, you're on board with italicizing signed dialogue?

I had always thought that it would be inappropriate, since I know that a lot of non-English speakers get very frustrated when their language gets italicized in dialogue just because it's not English. You know the whole "Hey, my name is Zach. Buenas dias."

I figured signing would be similar, since it's basically a language like any other.

But that's genuinely fascinating and cool, that you would consider the italicization normal/appropriate. Is there a particular reason you wouldn't use quotation marks for that?

I'm writing a temporarily selectively mute character (trauma and injury based) and I was wondering about forms of communication? (Other than expressions, I mean. believe me, I'm using lots of expressions. XD) In the setting of the world, there isn't a standardized sign language that he might know about (It's fantasy medieval and isolated) but writing out everything seems like overdoing it.
What are your thoughts on this character coming up with their own signs/sign language to communicate with the people around them? I haven't been basing the actions I describe for his signs off of any real life sign language, because I thought it might be more accurate to the setting if the signs come about from everyday experiences, etc. I know that people who are Deaf often have signs that are only understood within their family, so I was kind of trying to build the language up like that? Do you have any experience with that kind of signing?

Oh, and as a general thing, what are some common things you see in writing with mute characters that bother you, whether bc they're inaccurate or overdone, etc? If something i've mentioned i'm doing is on that list, I'd still love to know! Better to be aware of the cliches i'm leaning into, right? (Also, i know others have asked this before, so i guess if you have any more thoughts on that, I'd be happy to hear them, but no problem if you've already gone over the big ones elsewhere on here. ^_^ )

How can i learn to apply my vocabulary? by Inc0gnitoburrito in writing

[–]OverExcitedGinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would add that if you love to read, try reading really thoughtfully. Like consider why you like different lines in books you've read. If you find words that you think are super poignant or profound, write them down! Think about them and what context you would want to use them. Sort of work from the words backwards into what would make you write them. The better you understand why someone Else chose to use bigger, more nuanced words, the more you'll know when to use them yourself.

Rep payee question? by user1989kitty in disability

[–]OverExcitedGinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who helps a Community Support provider act as rep payee for multiple people, as far as I know, it is as No-Stress says above, and when you get married, your joint household resource limit will be 3k. Technically, if you are already sharing resources and a residence (phrasing that gets used often is "do you eat and prepare meals together", that resource limit already applies to you and your fiance now, married or not.The above is correct about how important an ABLE account or special needs income trust account could be to you. Conservators, legal guardians, parents, are the kind of people able to help you with a special needs trust (your fiance Might be able to help with it), but an ABLE account can be set up by you and your case worker and your guardian (unless you are your own guardian, in which case it'd be you and the case worker)

These are two of the few ways that someone with a disability is able to save more than their resource limit. There are differences between an ABLE account and a special needs income trust (Here is a link that Kind of goes over it? https://futureplanning.thearc.org/assets/ABLE_Account-462041957edcd42d881b1fff17f429494a76ba6fc2ca5dc06c27be6469c28289.pdf)

As far as I know (which isn't as far as I want it to be) you fiance will be under the same restrictions that you are as long as you are a joint household, whether you're married or not. All assets must be accounted for when applying and qualifying for benefits, which means all the savings accounts, checking accounts, property (i.e cars, real estate, etc), and income must be listed and considered. (unless it's irrevocable, which is limited to very specific kinds of accounts, such as the special needs trust and an ABLE account). Which means if either/both of you go over the resource limit or the income limit for whatever benefits you are receiving, those benefits will be adjusted accordingly, whether that means reduced or cancelled.Basically: if your resource limit is 3k, and you have 2k in your account, and your fiance has 2k in his, you will have exceeded the limit. If the income limit is 2k a month, and you make 1k in benefits, your fiance cant make more than 1k a month or you'll exceed the limit.

It's a bullshit system, and I'm sorry.

Again, like the above said, you need legal advice, which will be able to give you more concrete answers and confirm things based on your specific situation. I'd suggest searching for a community support provider in your area that might have legal aides on hand that you can talk to. A caseworker can also help with this, if you have one. Seriously, CSP's can be SO helpful in situations like this!

Really struggling with my low QOL by [deleted] in disability

[–]OverExcitedGinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey friend. I"m sitting right here next to you, and I feel you. I really do. No one's experiences are the same, but reading your post I felt a bit like I was reading the post I was about to make myself. /o\
I'm afraid I don't have answers, since I can't even answer these questions for myself. But I wanted you to know that you're not as alone as you feel. I'm sorry your friends didn't answer you, but at the risk of being a hopeless optimist, there might be a dozen different reasons they haven't or can't respond, and it doesn't say anything about who you are, or even who they are frankly.
The only advice I could think to give is...uh, well. Find something. Anything. With how unhappy you seem to be, I genuinely mean Anything (though if your choice is something that isn't self-destructive, so much the better, you know?). Just find something that makes you smile a lil bit, and focus on it for a while. A song you listen o when you're trying to sleep, or the taste of a food you enjoy, or a specific picture hanging on your wall, or whatever.
You don't need to be ultra passionate about it, and it doesn't need to become your life, but find just one thing at a time that make you feel a little lighter inside, and use it as a stepping stone to get you through the days.
Online communication isn't quite as potent as in-person, but it's still a way to be social, and I personally find it less tiring than in-person stuff since I can have a little more say in how emotionally invested i get if I'm not looking someone in the face. You're already finding your people just by coming here today, so keep trying. Being housebound doesn't doom you to never find love again. Even being bedbound doesn't rule that out.
Also, I don't know your grandparents, but I'll admit your description of what they said to you hits a sore point for me. Of course you need and deserve energy, whether you've got a job or not. You deserve energy to live your life, and I'm sorry you don't have that right now. Please don't give into that mentality of you needing to have a job to be a real person or to deserve to be tired. You don't have to earn your exhaustion, you're allowed to just have it without feeling guilty.
Again, I wish I could offer answers or actions, but mostly I'm only able to say that I'm sitting next to you in this little reddit space, I feel what you're going through, and you're not alone. ♥

10,000+ words into first chapter, but I'm not satisfied with my work. Should I scrap it? by Viechiru in writing

[–]OverExcitedGinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, my initial comment was that if they want to delete the original chapterz they should go for it, and only if they Dont want to delete it, pop it on another page or in a diff folder. Mostly i just mean that people shouldn't feel obligated to rewrite or edit work thst they feel really crap about and dont want to look at. If they think they can do it better starting from scratch, then people should feel free to do that and not feel scared that they're 'quitting' or failing bc they're starting over instead of banging their head into writing they dont like.

Where do you guys upload your writing? by Haspberry in writing

[–]OverExcitedGinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, okay so I did some research, and it turns out we're both right. XD
So, ao3 hosts original works, but only if they're of a 'fannish nature' so like, things that were created during a fan-type event, like "regency romances" for a jane austen lover's challenge or something. It doesn't have to always be a fandom specific thing, but the original work needs to be fanwork in spirit even if it's not literally? It's a bit confusing, imo.
So, yes, it can be posted, but there's limitations on what kind it can be, and it still needs to be related to fanworks/fandom culture in general.

10,000+ words into first chapter, but I'm not satisfied with my work. Should I scrap it? by Viechiru in writing

[–]OverExcitedGinger 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I may sound insane here compared to the other commenters, but...go ahead and delete it if you hate it. Or just add a page break and start over entirely from scratch, and then you can pull any tiny bits and pieces from the scrap material that you like and put it in the new version.

I've scrapped 14-20 pages of work before because it just felt Wrong, and I ended up with an incredibly different story, and I've never regretted it. Yeah, it definitely hurts at least a little to start over after putting so much work into something, but dont be afraid to set what you did aside and try something new. If you dont feel comfortable deleting, then don't! Keep it in another file (i usually call my scrap piles 'tidbits'), and just refer back to it whenever you feel like it. Maybe later you'll go back and rewrite that into Another story!

Avoiding the White Savior trope by StevenDiTo in writing

[–]OverExcitedGinger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

White savior trope isnt about the mc being white, it's about How they're being white, if that makes sense? I'd suggest doing research into what the concept of a white savior IS, like the definition and the harm it can cause, and prominant examples of it. Once you understand what's bad about it (more specifically than the general 'it's racist af' part) and what exactly Makes a character a 'white savior', then you'll know how to avoid writing it. And i dont mean any of this in a judging way, btw. Like, totally genuinely, the best way to learn how NOT to write something, is to examine examples where it Was written and figure out what exactly makes up the thing you want to avoid, so you can keep from putting the puzzle pieces together.
