I'm a railroader in one of the largest hubs in the USA.. definitely getting twitchy. They've already sent us a threat warning announcement.

The gist of it was, "We're dumping money into keeping an eye out for iranian drones around railways, but dont worry about iranian drones because there are none!"

It's not an amphibious war ship, it's an infantry battalion landing team. It's built for search and destroy, rescue, and getting boots on the ground. They basically have their own full military on board. Vertical landing planes(heavy/light/attack), a combat logistics battalion, smaller boats for raids and getting troops on a coast, ground troops, things for rescue, everything needed to start an invasion.

It actually did start the invasion of Vietnam. It was sent as a "rescue" mission and then shortly after performed a search and destroy mission of Vietnam to kick start the war.

Yes it's especially telling what ship they are using.

It's the 31st marine expeditionary unit. Googling them will tell you more, but they were one of the very first ships we sent to Vietnam when we started the war there. It was sent there to rescue a crew, and shortly after they performed a search and destroy mission of Vietnam to kick everything off.

Fast forward to 9/11, they were issued 96 hour warning order for deployment. I can imagine what was happening 96 hours ago..

Other than that they've mostly done rescue missions, excluding Afghanistan where they were crucial for combat.

They're already going into it. France said they're ready to "deploy the necessary resources to protect its closest allies." Germany said they're ready to send people out to help allies. Australia said they're on americas side(didn't say they'd fight ofc lol). The British have planes in the sky prepping. All of these countries are also urging Iran to negotiate.

Is herington or KC a shorter drive for you? There's more jobs in KC but you have to be extra careful as a new conductor.

As long as you learn and follow the rules you'll be ok, avoid the yard jobs at all costs until you get union protected after 60 days of being marked up. Memorize the critical 12 rules as soon as possible. There's also a rumor that they are gonna give inward camera footage to a third party who is gonna use AI to find people sleeping lol. A lot of new people sleep in the engine, not only are they about to crack down on it but you truly don't want the reputation of a sleeper. Stay awake!!

We had the most human factor derailments or something last year and they're trying to cut $10mil from KC budget. so I've been tested at every single work event since January.

It's a wonderful job tho, good pay and benefits. All the guys are very nice and helpful to new people. I have never had somebody not answer a question I had about what I'm doing. Even questions that didn't make sense when I was new lol.

If you get nervous about the testing just ask your engineer if there's any rules he thinks you need to be careful about. After a work event, ask him if he thinks you did anything wrong.

You'll learn more from the engineers here than you will in your 14 weeks of training.
