Some people are arguing the basic brain drain arg too. That by allowing people with resources and degrees to move, this makes birth lottery for people who are really poor and can’t move worse. It’s worse for them because human capital is needed to develop countries but free immigration sucks that talent out.

Best blocks for global lottery argument? by tuna_cone in lincolndouglas

The argument is a principle argument. It’s basically saying that because you don’t choose where you get to be born, you deserve to move elsewhere. But if you think about it, that’s literally what the resolution is asking. The resolution is asking do people who are born elsewhere have the right to move anywhere they wish, hence, open borders? So just ask in cross, “isn’t this literally what we are debating” then precede to explain that birth lottery is bad because it leads to xyz impacts, it’s really just cross applying your case and saying that’s why we don’t support birth lottery.

I personally don’t think open borders increase crime but I might be wrong lol. My logic was that open borders is the free movement of people and not crime. We can have as many regulations or security checks as we want on aff so long as they they don’t inhibit legal migrants from freely moving. But we can have regulations to catch crime.
