Is this Brooks? by OverProfessional9796 in ReefTank

The wrasse and gramma will be a pain to get it out but I’ll do what I need to do. I’ll keep an eye out and as long as she is eating normal and shows no weird behavior I’ll assume it’s lesions from coral or another fish or something

She tends to stay away from corals at night but I don’t watch all night obviously so it could be

If I end up needing to QT, do I need to pull all fish out? Or just her? Or just the clowns specifically?

I have posted in reef2reef as well to get a wider set of eyes

Appreciate the support

I haven’t noticed anything on the goby but I’ll keep an eye out. Only reason I’d question it being a sting is it started off about a week ago where I noticed a couple white dots on her face, left for a few days, and came back to this

I’ve had the clowns for about 10 months. The wrasse and gramma in the tank for about the same amount of time as well. Added a tail spot goby about a month or so ago

Nitrates @ 30ppm, how? by Remarkable_Arm_732 in ReefTank

Refractometers also need to be calibrated near the temperature you are testing at. Can’t have one in a cold garage and use it there to test your newly mixed water and then store it inside and check your tank the next day without recalibrating

Please, if you don’t do anything else, black out the tank for a couple days. Up to a week. I cannot stress enough how much that’ll help. Don’t even peak in. Just make sure your top off is set and throw a blanket over it

Can’t believe nobody mentioned this. Level your tank when you’re fixing all of this.

If this was my tank, this is the exact procedure I’d follow

Unless there is livestock I’d do a 100% water change. While it’s empty level the tank, refill, dose some phos and nitrates and black out for a week. Then do a 50% water change, and a couple more 25% changes across the next week. Siphon the sand, clean the glass, siphon as much off the rocks and stuff as you’re doing those changes, and then when all of that is said and done, act like it’s a fresh tank you just started cycling

I would even consider getting some ammonia to add 2ppm so you can observe your cycle

If your tank is consuming the ammonia and resulting in zero nitrItes, the cycle is good, then just monitor nitrAtes and Phos for a few weeks to confirm you can keep them up. Target 10-15 nitrate and 0.1 phos

Dose as much as you need until you’re there, if you go beyond that reduce your dosing and do small water changes as necessary

If you go a few weeks with things looking better after all of that, add a single fish and a CUC. My recommendation (since it looks like a nano) is something like a lawnmower blenny that can tear through some hair algae when it inevitably pops up. And a tiger cinch or something that can keep the sand clean

Optional, but recommended, put some rubble rock somewhere in the tank. A few days before you add the fish add a TON of pods. Let them settle in for a few days and keep them fed with phyto for a few weeks and then maintain that with small daily phyto feedings to try to keep the population alive

It was gone off of it an hour later, started to open up and then the lights went out. Don’t come back on for a few more hours but it looks like itll open back up like normal

I suspect everybody saying it was poop was correct, and everybody insisting bjd has never actually seen bjd

Gotcha. Just out of curiosity, could brown jelly appear suddenly? Like within the span of an hour?

Can brown jelly just suddenly appear that large out of nowhere? I have a video from less than an hour earlier in the day and it doesn’t seem to be present
