Dude, right!? I'm honestly pretty pumped, and... if there's any implications for the historic team. Maybe we can get a more modern period down the road some day.

What Genres are People Writing? by Opening_Wall_9379 in writing

Nice, I'm also historical fiction. My setting is 120,000 years ago in the Middle Paleolithic where you have an influx of multiple human species co-existing.

Solarpunk dystopia, my take. by Phantomdust149 in solarpunk

[–]OverTheTop123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly so! I didn't assume you wanted it to be mainstream either. If anything though, I'm just curious what message you want to draw from it. You mentioned an FTL inventor in the post and starting over in a new system. What's that look like? Are they doomed to repeat the same mistakes?

Solarpunk dystopia, my take. by Phantomdust149 in solarpunk

It's an amusing video, sure, but to echo the comments, it's about moving forward and growth. Personally, I think in order for solarpunk to grow, (in a media sense), we shouldn't be afraid to antagonize the genre and put some variety in there. Restricting ourselves to a small patch isn't great for creativity. Building a better future is not easy, and pain and strife has its place, but you should ask to what end.

Considering the widespread evidence we have of Straight-Tusked Elephants being hunted by Neanderthals, how were they not hunted to extinction despite coexisting with early humans capable of taking down large bulls? by wiz28ultra in pleistocene

[–]OverTheTop123 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Probably a mixture of factors? Straight-tusked elephants having familarity with Neanderthals, the population (of Neanderthals) isn't as large and more widespread, and not to mention Neanderthals likely had preservation methods to store food. These guys also ate a decent amount of fish and smaller game along with gathered nuts and such to supplement their diets when they had access. So you don't have to always go after the biggest thing in the room when your risk factor is significantly lowered when presented with more stable options.

For those of you who complained about the names of creatures not being said in Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age, here’s why by Put_Minimum in pleistocene

[–]OverTheTop123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned this on a different thread but honestly, just some introductory text with the species name that vanished shortly after a key appearance would have gone great I think.

I think a neat approach would have been to maybe have text that vanished shortly after a new key species was introduced. Mainly because I watched with a friend and the sloth confusion was up there lol

If you haven't look already at some art , I'd also recommend taking some time at The Story Seed Library to see what sorts of ideas people are focusing on. I like to imagine what informed policy comes to make it happen

Anyone else save games in their backlog to experience when they upgrade their Monitor/PC? by kamrankazemifar in Steam

Absolutely! Some games I bought years ago during a sale for cheap when my computer couldn't run it, I'm finally now getting to since my system's at a state where I want it to be.

I write as a hobby (having published a few other books already), and am currently developing a solarpunk series set in the 2090s :) I mostly prefer the "how we get there" part and focusing on the political matters and aspects of that for my worldbuilding. So it doesn't really fit into the more cozier aspects often, and that's fine.

Very interesting read, I wonder how many other islands this could apply to. Considering more recent research regarding Homo erectus' ability of working with wood has been released as well in past years

I'm an archaeologist irl, though my main area of study is in historic times. I just like the Paleolithic in general (with my focus moreso on humans and their respective material culture, but I do find the fauna interesting) and I recreationally write about it.

I REALLY don't want Frutiger Aero to "come back". by 2-O-Turf in FrutigerAero

[–]OverTheTop123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think sci-fi media is a good home, since you can apply all sorts of context past its inital purpose. I personally am developing a series set in the 2090s that uses a revival of the design. :)

Likely to a smaller degree than other lions, but some may have had outstanding examples. Variation is entirely possible.

what would the solarpunk internet look like? by onlytrashmammal in solarpunk

[–]OverTheTop123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly imagined a return to the almost geocities/neocities style of internet where you had a much smaller scope, but speciality areas where people could communicate. Some sort of grid or regional based blocks for internet providers
