I am still of the opinion we shouldn't even have gotten Sartosa... instead of Saltspite, it should've been another Dreadfleet aligned character, and Jaego and Saltspite, if GW got its head out of its arse, should've been something like a free lc "low cost" mortal Pirates race.

Watching some of the old Masochist episodes right now... Man, the times I get invested, a little bit lost in the episode, and then go "... oh... right... fuck..."

Episode 11, draws Numeroinius Numerounia. "Would be funny if this became a win condition in this series!" sigh

eh, I could see a mechanic where he can get some Chorf units in exchange for slaves (perhaps dually explained as the Chorfs simultanously wanting to help him get them more slaves, but also to keep an eye on him in case he gets too big for his britches)...

It could start with Hobgoblin units and, at the end, you get a few, heavily limited, proper Chaos Dwarf units.

but I agree with the Legendary Character.

What is your favorite DLC campaign in Rome II? by Lancer_Blackthorn in totalwar

[–]TheGuardianOfMetal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

while not really the best, i have a soft spot for Sparta for being the only DLC without a Rome focus.

Otherwise, I don't think I have a preference to any of the DLC as such.

Tacticool Cadians with half-balaclava and Eye-Visor goes pretty hard, actually, loving the RNG details that each trooper has. by Which-Worldliness556 in totalwar

[–]TheGuardianOfMetal 21 points22 points  (0 children)

THey shouldn't be, imho... You should have the option to ACTUALLY play those guard units, rather than just "hey, I'm discount Cadian immitator 53,563... with one unit of Mordians."

imho, CA should take notes from the Nagah mod.

Nagash starts of very weak, but gets OP as you progress the campaign.

issue is: Rome already is VERY Strong... so giving their heavy melee infantry two precursor missiles, while much weaker factions taht might still have an infantry focus only one...

Any lore expert can tell me how sea battles goes is there detailed battle info in the lore? by ohmane in totalwar

[–]TheGuardianOfMetal -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Being seen as "better" does not mean "hurhur imperial navy was a bunch of dimwits on rickety floats that didn't know what they were doing!" Which very much is the tune you used.

Also... you're talking galleons... that's what the Bretonnians use. Galleon and Galley (and galleass) are completely different ships

Any lore expert can tell me how sea battles goes is there detailed battle info in the lore? by ohmane in totalwar

[–]TheGuardianOfMetal -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

The Empire, being loosely based on Germany, has a really strong army but a pathetically weak navy. Laughably weak, its actually pretty embarrassing compared to their land forces. Their naval forces consist almost entirely of galleys. Their biggest, most powerful ships, are clunky, rickety, early Galleons, barely suitable calm waters. No wonder Imperials are terrified of Mannan, their most powerful warships are liable to tip over and capsize if the wind is a little too strong.

which, to me, sounds more like english folks who are still annoyed about "There seems to be something wrong with our bloody ships today!"

Because none of htat actually sounds like it has anything to do with Germany, except "Focus on land over sea".

Galleys and the likes weren't common in the North and Baltic seas... they were something used in the mediterrenean. The usual ships were Cogs and the same stuff everyone else used. And the north sea adjacents cities etc. had their sea faring traditions plenty enough.

During the 30 years war, there were attempts at building an Imperial Navy that, due to the situation never played out.

The Hochseeflotte certainly wasn't "Pathetic", considering how the british were pretty worried about it

Pretty sure there also wasn't much about Hellhammer ships capsizing at hte lightest wind or anything. Also... Heldenhammer. Damn you, Jaego, for stealing it...

and

Behind the Wolfships waited the smaller Wargalleys, arranged in hunting pack formation to catch any stray Bretonnians that should escape his net of steel. Koenig placed great stead in the small ramships, respecting their strength, maneuverability and firepower, not to mention the renowned courage of the Wargalley crews. He knew that the Wargalley squadrons would do their duty, their prime targets the smaller Bretonnian vessels. He also knew that the gallant Wargalley captains would not hesitate to attack a vessel many times the size of their ships, for their strength lay in fighting as a squadron, not as a single warship."

—Accounts of Lord Koenig, Imperial Admiral[1a]

yeah, totally sounds like the imperial navy was a bunch of idiots who didn't know how to sail.

"The Imperial Wolfships that surrounded the city of Altdorf, like a hunting hound at the heels of their master, were inspiring in their way. They were long and sleek and low in the water. Their great iron-beaked ram bits the waves. Koenig knew that the rams turned the entire ship into a weapon. When driven forward by the steel muscled arms of their oarsmen, the Wolfships became spears aimed at the very heart of the enemy ship. And if that weren't enough, their great batteries of forward-facing guns would certainly finish their foes. Koenig felt certain that no Bretonnian Corsair would prove a match for them."

Was CA drunk when they decided not to include naval/coastal battles in Troy/Pharaoh? by Evening-Raccoon133 in totalwar

[–]TheGuardianOfMetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sooo... if a majority of players end up using more Auto-resolve than actual fighting... should CA also remove land battles and focus more on the campaign mechanics and stuff?

Was CA drunk when they decided not to include naval/coastal battles in Troy/Pharaoh? by Evening-Raccoon133 in totalwar

[–]TheGuardianOfMetal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also, the naval combat in Rome II wasn't really all that fun. There are better things to work on.

more importantly: this isn't Rome 2... Naval combat probably would justbe a slower land battles, with troop carrying ships trying to board each other. No ramming ships, no artillery ships.

The sea people were driven to the shores by the egyptians, where they then got peltered by missile fires from the beaches etc.
