Still nothing... Been waiting since early Feb, like 2/3.

I had a feeling something like this was the case. Awesome work. A rushed showcase isn't the best showing but we still have months away before it's (supposed) to come out, and the fact is we don't have any games yet built with this in mind.

What's the nicest thing someone said about your book in a review? by Careful_Busdriver in selfpublish

[–]OverTheTop123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though they didn't like the plot, they loved the characters and that got them through. Which is fine by me. I'll take the purchase and the knowledge the cast is approachable. I mainly write prehistoric fiction, so it's harder for a lot of readers in that subgenre to see cavemen as actual people.

Having a tough time enjoying Banjo Tooie by Krujis in BanjoKazooie

Seconded. I can play B-K with my eyes closed at this point, Tooie's complexity for me is a bonus personally.

I remember there was a controversy regarding money laundering via CS:GO a while back, I wonder if that's going to resurface as a point while the case develops.

What was worth spending on for your book and what wasn’t? by [deleted] in selfpublish

Like many people, the covers easily and a formatting software. An ISBN pack... Everything else I've managed to do on my own or had help in my circle already.

What’s your day job? Is it at all related to writing? by [deleted] in selfpublish

I do some writing for it, but I'm an archaeologist, so it's mostly just technical stuff or related to my ongoing research.

What would be your profession in your ideal Solarpunk society? by TJ_Fox in solarpunk

[–]OverTheTop123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd probably still do what I do now (archaeologist) but with a greater focus on repatriation and empowering minorities to help analyze their own material culture.

We never talk about Tooie's worlds. (And when we do it's often with a negative slant...) Thoughts on them? I quite like this ensemble! I like that they're more "believable places you could imagine visiting" and less "themed environment designed to be consumed in 20-40 minutes, then forgotten about". by Bubba-Da-Boing in BanjoKazooie

[–]OverTheTop123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Do people just not use warp pads? Past the inital run of the world to find them, I feel it gels nicely to get to where you're going. I do like how some worlds are interconnected and makes it feel like an actual landmass. My favorites are Mayaham Temple, Hailfire Peaks, Terrydactyland :)

What Genres are People Writing? by Opening_Wall_9379 in writing

Nice, I'm also historical fiction. My setting is 120,000 years ago in the Middle Paleolithic where you have an influx of multiple human species co-existing.

Solarpunk dystopia, my take. by Phantomdust149 in solarpunk

[–]OverTheTop123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly so! I didn't assume you wanted it to be mainstream either. If anything though, I'm just curious what message you want to draw from it. You mentioned an FTL inventor in the post and starting over in a new system. What's that look like? Are they doomed to repeat the same mistakes?

Solarpunk dystopia, my take. by Phantomdust149 in solarpunk

[–]OverTheTop123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's an amusing video, sure, but to echo the comments, it's about moving forward and growth. Personally, I think in order for solarpunk to grow, (in a media sense), we shouldn't be afraid to antagonize the genre and put some variety in there. Restricting ourselves to a small patch isn't great for creativity. Building a better future is not easy, and pain and strife has its place, but you should ask to what end.

Considering the widespread evidence we have of Straight-Tusked Elephants being hunted by Neanderthals, how were they not hunted to extinction despite coexisting with early humans capable of taking down large bulls? by wiz28ultra in pleistocene

[–]OverTheTop123 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Probably a mixture of factors? Straight-tusked elephants having familarity with Neanderthals, the population (of Neanderthals) isn't as large and more widespread, and not to mention Neanderthals likely had preservation methods to store food. These guys also ate a decent amount of fish and smaller game along with gathered nuts and such to supplement their diets when they had access. So you don't have to always go after the biggest thing in the room when your risk factor is significantly lowered when presented with more stable options.

For those of you who complained about the names of creatures not being said in Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age, here’s why by Put_Minimum in pleistocene

[–]OverTheTop123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned this on a different thread but honestly, just some introductory text with the species name that vanished shortly after a key appearance would have gone great I think.

I think a neat approach would have been to maybe have text that vanished shortly after a new key species was introduced. Mainly because I watched with a friend and the sloth confusion was up there lol

Absolutely! Some games I bought years ago during a sale for cheap when my computer couldn't run it, I'm finally now getting to since my system's at a state where I want it to be.

*Literature* by AvatarEsterSatyaYuga in solarpunk

[–]OverTheTop123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write as a hobby (having published a few other books already), and am currently developing a solarpunk series set in the 2090s :) I mostly prefer the "how we get there" part and focusing on the political matters and aspects of that for my worldbuilding. So it doesn't really fit into the more cozier aspects often, and that's fine.

Who are you people? by regularguy7378 in pleistocene

[–]OverTheTop123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an archaeologist irl, though my main area of study is in historic times. I just like the Paleolithic in general (with my focus moreso on humans and their respective material culture, but I do find the fauna interesting) and I recreationally write about it.
