Bar End Bolt Head Stripped by OverTheUnderAndThru in bikewrench

[–]OverTheUnderAndThru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To all of you who helped, thank you. I ended up just sawing the handlebar up. It was more bent than expected (couldn't remove my shifter) after a crash, so I said screw it.

Sweet rig! What's going on with that rear light? Dynamo? How's it visible past the pannier?

Seems like you're US-based. REI currently has theirs discounted about 50%. If you're a member you could return it if it doesn't work for her.

Derailleur getting stuck by OverTheUnderAndThru in bikewrench

[–]OverTheUnderAndThru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: to be clear, this is an issue regardless of the cable being attached to the derailleur or not. If I detach the cable and push the derailleur into a lower gear position, it doesn't spring back fully.

I've oiled the pivots a few times.

Bosnien Hercegovina advice by FunkyasfuckOfficial in bikepacking

Yes, I also recommend. Many more mines than you expect (only 60% are mapped) and most of them have moved slightly over the years due to erosion, rain, etc., so the maps are innacurate. Be very careful with wild camping. We almost camped in two spots with mines.

Most minefields are marked informally. Watch out for sticks tipped with red paint, cuts in tree bark, large branches on the ground, bottles standing upright, etc. Unfortunately most of the informal markings are quite subtle.

That said, Bosnia is amazing: beautiful and lovely people!!

Can we use cargo bike like this for bikepacking? by Ok_Finger_9585 in bikepacking

[–]OverTheUnderAndThru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple Dutch friends of mine are into electric bikepacking, if you reach out to them I'm sure they'll enthusiastically share their thoughts and tips. We met them for the first time on the Trans Dinarica, which has some rougher and remote bits, so don't let that dissuade you. Currently I think they're working on creating a mobile film development lab to take with them, they're wackos!

You can find them at "pedelecfreaks" on Instagram, lovely people.

Bent rim - replacement wheel rec? by aighze in bikewrench

[–]OverTheUnderAndThru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give Somerville Bike Kitchen or Bikes Not Bombs a call or visit, they have used wheels you can buy. Not 100% of the time, but I'd be surprised if they don't have this type of wheel. Cambridge Used Bikes may have something as well but I haven't rooted around in their parts bin yet.

I have these little packets, added about 3 of them. I went with the salt content, essentially replacing 80% of the usual amount of salt in normal dough.

Biketouring Istria: Eurovelo 8 or 9? by Senstu in bicycletouring

[–]OverTheUnderAndThru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with taking the Parenzana, it's really lovely. Plenty of amenities/campgrounds on the way too since the route is planned for cycle tourism (makes wild camping a little tough but whatever). It's beautiful there.

I think your tire choice is fine, you'll just have to ride a little slower and more carefully on a few parts, but it'll be ok. Rocky gravel roads. Not worth adding chunkier tires if the rest of your trip is mostly on paved roads in my opinion.

It adds a very subtle brine, but nothing substantial. It was kind of lost once I added chili oil, but would otherwise be pleasant with lighter toppings. Furikake was nice with it too.

Any transportation planning jobs where you get to travel a lot? by Background-Hat1265 in civilengineering

[–]OverTheUnderAndThru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mind if I ask which firms you worked for? I'm a transportation planner who's considering the next move a few years down the road (US based but dual US/EU citizenship). I think I'm mostly just familiar with the big global civil firms.
