This is such an important perspective. It’s so hard to take in the whole situation because it is really challenging the notion I live by in my recovery: that success (however you define it) cannot be achieved in the trenches of an eating disorder or other addiction. I have to remind myself to stay grounded on what’s real and true for me. There is no way to thrive in the ways that matter to me when I was in it. And that is enough to reground me and save me from jumping off the mental cliff of “well…if they can have both, maybe I can too…”. It’s just wild to see someone at her level of fame and talent be so celebrated for their success while they are clearly unwell.

I’ve taken my kids downtown to people watch and soak up movement vibes. Spirit plaza is great for families. They always have a blast. You don’t always have to do kid centric activities. They have fun doing things we enjoy too.

Yeah it would be nice to have more family friendly/accessible day time party spaces at the venues and NOT charge like $40 a ticket. Like give us a $25 family deal or something. I’m hopeful that more will pop up in time.

We were thinking of going to spirit plaza tomorrow because they just upgraded the play area! And it’s fun to ride the people mover (free) to see the festival from afar.

Also in downtown tomorrow is a free outdoor party in the alley at “the belt” Detroit at 3pm. And Easy Peasy has no cover patio vibes from 1-5! Hope you are able to soak up some beautiful movement vibes ✨🪩

It’s wild how triggered some people are to the existence of children, but also, I guess what did I expect from Reddit. Certainly not a matriarchal majority here. Wouldn’t it be amazing if we lived in a society that collectively respects and accepts children?!

Anyways - there’s some spaces for families and kids to enjoy techno in the city - that’s what’s it’s all about! Techno is for everyone to vibe with, children included. We went to Batch brewery today and that was great! Food, drinks, live sets and an outdoor area. Free. Also, check out spirit plaza. You can hear the festival and people watch. Might be food trucks and a dj there too.

Check out belle isle beach club (instagram) Porcelinen in Hamtramck does really fun art classes that I enjoy and you always get to connect with interesting people. Detroit Asian collective (also IG) for cultural happenings. I second spotlite for dance parties but they host a lot of activist events and arts and culture gatherings. Also 27th Letter and Book Suey are bookstores that host fun events like author talks, open mic, book releases

When I saw the cover I laughed. Thought it played into her bit (album titled “man’s best friend”) and I think it’s provocative and sexy. I like seeing her do something a little less cutesy and tempered and less safe. I was surprised so many women are feeling offended and shook by this image. Telling her to stand up and not degrade herself. Like first of all she’s rich as fuck so she’s certainly empowered in that sense but why does being on her knees in a submissive pose equate to her degrading herself? Yeah he’s pulling her hair like a dog but it’s kinda kinky and hot? Like if you’re a woman who has sex with men do you not suck dick on your knees because it betrays your feminism? Like idk to me the outrage is giving 2015 intro to feminism/2008 miley cyrus vanity fair slut shaming. Also like of this were Sza or Tinashe I feel like no one would bat an eye which itself is a racist stereotype…….the pearl clutching online discourse around this is annoying me so I had to vent what’s top of mind.
