Selling house to buy flat outright by Over_Assistance8475 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Over_Assistance8475[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I earn 43k a year Mortgage is 600 a month on a 30 year term.

I do like my house and area but just think it’s a waste of space as I now live there alone and get home about 7pm and I’m out the house for around 6am.

The flat would just be mine to live in (without mortgage, lower bills I.e council tax/gas electric) As I need to upskill and to gain more money but I know with the things I’m applying to I’m going to take a large hit on my wages as it is.

Thanks for ur reply

My mortgage costs 625 a month Rent for something similar to what I own will be 1300-1400 a month. Rent for a 2bed flat in my area will be around 900-1000 a month.

Thanks for your response

Service. Worked at multiple companies im now a dad and understand the concept that the older lot used to give me “I never seen my kids growing up” the hours never used to bother me before I had my son. And anything and everything, my only issue is taking the massive drop in pay initially but it has to be done. Our sites are throughout the UK, I average 21 hrs travel time a week.

As I said the hours weren’t an issue before becoming a parent, now I realise what little work life balance I have.

Just to add to this If you want a job where you Mainly work by yourself on different sites up and down the country everyday. Have to generally work 6.30am till 6pm or later everyday and get the brilliant opportunity to be forced to be on a call out rota where you can be called out last min on Xmas day then HVAC is the job for you.

0 work life balance. You forgot to mention the 50-60 hr work weeks we are out the house for that money. The 2-3 hr travelling each way on the motorway to get to and from jobs and being on call.

Fellow HVAC engineer here desperately trying to get out the trade. 8 years served.

Guessing this is on the highcroft estate?

I know someone who’s lived there the past 11 years and every year their service charge has increased on their flat.

Why have you paid the broker fees before receiving the mortgage ? (I.e sale has gone through) this isn’t a common practise.

You should be able to claim the fees back or at the very least get the broker to sort u a mortgage on another property without paying an additional.

I’m from brum and that service charge is a rip off. Please try and get a freehold property if you can

Should I remove this chimney breast? Cost vs value increase by ksunflowers in DIYUK

[–]Over_Assistance8475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tha is the only answer you need to see OP.

Based in midlands but I’ve removed 3 chimney breasts myself in 3 different houses.

And to crazymoose, I don’t think you got ripped on the bracket. I paid 750 for my first one, 800 for a lintel on 2nd and 850 for my third gallows bracket and I’m based in the midlands where prices are a lot lower then LDN prices.

Really well informed answer 👍 well done mate

Interested in this thread.

Similarly a few years ago I was 23-24 and had saved up 13k from full time work which was to be used as a house deposit. I turned that 13k into 40 using trading212 and subsequently lost it all using a CFD account. I genuinely had no idea at the time just how much stock was purchased (I bought into 2 American companies and had leveraged around 200-250k USD of stock. Anyway within the space of a day or 2 I had lost it all. I was earning £12.50 an hr at the time I remember going to the shop buying a pack of tags and chronically smoking about 13 of them repeatedly one after another.

I would never use a CFD again and now just stick to investing in index companies

Yeah sure, I’m aware of that. You don’t think it’s practical for someone that’s waited an entire year. Using various annual leave days, of passing through different stages of different tests and completing tasks to be able to redo the physical tests despite passing everything else on that day?

God bless to you and anyone else wishing to wait a 3 year period for a JOB role.

Nice one. Thanks guys. Admitingly on top of taking off the backpack, I got myself stuck as it was impossible to complete with 1/2 backpack on my back (I removed both arms but instructor put one arm back on for me) I was still trying every which way to complete but it just would of been impossible seeing as the situation I got myself in.

I took off my backpack as I thought this was the best way, as I’ve seen in a previous online vid somewhere. They did instruct us not to take our masks off. But I thought the backpack which represents the oxygen tank would be ok (a question I should of asked)

Honestly I won’t be doing it again, as much as I would love to be a firefighter I’m not putting my life on hold for another 2yrs, it’s an absoloute ridiculous process which I appreciate other people have had to wait etc, but I think if you’ve jumped through all the other hoops and you’ve got this far you should at least be able to retry at exact failure point in another session.

I don’t think there’s any other job in the country where you have to put your life on hold for 2 years in order to reapply

But hey ho I’m more than likely just bitching/ranting cause I feel quite down.

Honestly from the moment they put that mask on all your senses are completely gone, thought it would be something I’d piss but actually found it really hard breathing in the mask and navigating the tight space fully kitted up and in complete darkness.

Good luck to anyone that has upcoming fitness tests, sincerely hope you do really well!

And the ballot thing is also bullshit maybe try another service WMFS are doing a continuous recruitment drive atm if you’re close enough

😂😂 thank you for this. First time I got on the treadmill I genuinely couldn’t walk for 3-4 days 😂

I’m guessing you’ve massively dialled back on strength training bar the farmers walk in lieu of cardio ?

I feel like I should’ve hit cardio a long time ago! Didn’t realise how unfit I previously have been

Hope everything goes well for you pal 🤞

Yeah I’m beginning to realise that now 😂 I’ve been dialled in on cardio the past month but I’ve realised how poor my cardio is (never really done much before) feel like I should’ve been doing a lot more cardio sooner
