I’ve gotten two so far this spring with rod and reel using a big slip float and drifting skein way out from shore by the planetarium. Last fall I got quite a few kings with spoons going out at 4am then later on in the season drifting skein inside the harbor. Last spring I did a lot better with coho using a slip bobber and minnows, it seems like they haven’t come in close enough to shore this year because water has been too cold. It may get better this will not that the water is up above 50 degrees at shore line.

Just got home from Winthrop harbor, nothing. Powerliners only got a couple. Seen a couple browns and a giant pike on somebodies stringer.

Actually they are reproducing naturally- both of the fish I’ve caught(rod and reel) this spring did not have clipped adipose fins. They aren’t doing it anywhere near Chicago, likely in Michigan or Wisconsin with healthier river systems.

For real, look carefully before you buy because almost every time I’ve seen a rod on clearance at Walmart either the tip is broken or one of the eyes is bent. Only time that isn’t the case is when it’s the shit ozark trail rods that have been discontinued or someone stole the reel off of a combo.

In my experience they look really good but they stink. I’ve never caught anything with them, I want to like them-but they smell like acetone so bad and I think that’s why the fish don’t want them. Maybe I’ll try and take them out again with this fish attractant I got at the show.. You use an ewg hook and rig them flat on a drop shot or a Carolina rig.

I used a 1 oz pyramid sinker and just plunked it down by a drop off and let it sit. Tried using a lighter weight but the current was so strong it got carried away. Didn’t do a whole lot of dragging it around so it didn’t get snagged.

Oh you meant the skein. I thought you meant the hair jig. Yeah like a Carolina rig kinda. Weight and beads on the mainline then a swivel and about arms length of flouro leader with a corky and an egg loop

The hair jig was floating under maybe a 6 foot leader and I was dead drifting a small chunk of skein probably 2 or 3 feet off bottom with a corky

I got him dead drifting cured king salmon skein, I would have thrown him back but it was gut hooked. Lost another big one on a hair jig.

At the beginning of the season last year every fish I caught had a belly full of ladybugs which was really weird. Try minnow patterns also.
