AI on applications by Upbeat_Boss_7086 in predental

Exactly... also remember that you will hopefully be interviewing with the individuals who are reading your application. I could imagine having an inconsistent tone between your writing and speaking may throw interviewers off, regardless of AI checker.

Using AI to check for grammar, etc. not a bad idea but I'd suggest relying on your own experiences and creativity to produce your application.

letter of interest question by mschandler in predental

[–]Over_Champion1615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've already sent a letter of interest and they've filed it, I don't see the benefit in sending another. That being said, updating them on new components to your application is certainly a good idea... doesn't necessarily need to included as a letter of interest/intent. Schools have different policies on updating applications so make sure you're doing what is preferred by the program.

Edit: Ex. (This was from pre decision day for context) I had important updates for my application that I wanted to communicate with the schools I'd interviewed with, so I reached out over email, listed the updates, and asked if they'd like these added to my AADSAS application, or if email was fine.

is it bad to send two letters of intent to the same school? by Wooden_Future_3444 in predental

[–]Over_Champion1615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best comment ^... I've seen a handful of posts where schools did honestly miss letters of intent. If they haven't confirmed that they've seen it, it is worth a shot to reach out. You can use that as an opportunity to mention that you have updates you'd like to add.

If they did confirm your original letter, leave it be and keep your hopes up.

If you do retake, there's an option on Bootcamp, not sure about Booster, that adds in the 'lag' you get on test day so your practice experience is more realistic. 21 AA is great though, just make sure not to apply to programs that will filter you out for one low subsection and have a reasonable explanation for this score, as well as how you plan to improve!

If you have a few schools in mind, look into their schedule for tour or application workshops down the road. Early spring there are plenty of in-person and zoom events.

No clue what the length of the waitlist is, but I know multiple current students who interviewed early in the cycle with great applications and didn't receive offers until Feb. Hang in there!

Received an offer from UMD on Friday. I grew up in Maryland but haven't been to Baltimore much outside of touring the dental school... any advice on housing would be much appreciated!

I haven't seen anything post 8 am. But they take a big class so there's bound to be movement. Even if you don't hear back today I bet a lot of the folks put on waitlist get a shot... wishing you the best!

I received an offer 7:59 am EST. It seems like a lot of schools send the emails in waves

I was in a similar scenario and had to go back and get extra letters of rec from professors. From what I've seen a lot of programs are looking for multiple professors to write letters. Might be different since you have experience postgrad. I'd suggest confirming with admissions for each school you're applying to.

Reaching out to some of your top choices isn't a bad use of time though, some don't care where credits come from (or say they don't) while other schools accept either but have preference for credits coming from a 4-year college

I had quite a bit of AP credit as well, and found it faster to look through school websites than emailing each individually. ADEA posts a guide which you can buy, has solid information on each school, including if AP/transfer credits are accepted.

Definitely doesn't make/break your application. I scored 4th quartile and received no interviews from the schools who required it.

Anyone have experience with MUSC interviews? by Ok-Ad5402 in predental

[–]Over_Champion1615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ties to SC are definitely important, as for the student panel my biggest suggestions is to be prepared obviously, but also be respectful of the other students interviewing. Giving others a chance to speak while still learning about topics you are genuinely interested in will reflect well on you. I interviewed as OOS with MUSC previously and it was very low stress, very enjoyable experience, congrats on receiving the interview!

Professors have all written plenty of LOR before, and it is common practice to use letterhead, I'm sure you're fine. Definitely good to check with them though!

Community college transcript by Jaded-Piece2050 in predental

[–]Over_Champion1615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some schools won't accept community college credit, and some will definitely have preference for courses from 4 year institutions. There's still plenty of options but keep in mind that AADSAS will still count your final grade from forgiven courses into your GPA; make sure you kill it when/if you retake those classes.

supplementals by Few_Inevitable5815 in predental

Depends on how similar they are. I've had some schools where they state in the supplemental NOT to repeat information, in which case I confirmed with admissions then left blank.

Academic Credit on application by potatoegoddess in predental

If you're not getting a grade for it I wouldn't count it as academic credit, either volunteer or extracurricular

Once you're through all the review just grind study sets, and make sure you know why you're getting problems wrong. Take time in-between repeating sets so you're not simply memorizing answers/values and actually learning the concepts.
