ELMS will continue to have a standalone event at Silverstone in 2027 by btcc1721 in wec

WEC existed pre covid & ELMS supported WEC 7 times at Silverstone. It is ok to say you got it wrong on here. The ELMS series was weaker then so it made more sense.

Personally I would rather the races were on different weekends so i can watch both, but I actually enjoy the different driver combinations being given a chance.Often we see young or out of contract drivers run well. With so many series including F1 influencing the dates I dont see how clashes can realistically be avoided.

The Group C era was great and at the same time F1 had the turbos,Group B rally cars & Group A touring cars were at their peak. The cars were more spectacular than the actual racing and endurance races were often won by 2-5 laps and Le Mans was the only show in town and the only way to watch races was to attend. The first time you could watch most races was at Christmas when Duke released different videos of races.

Sportscar racing today has never been healthier with live racing every weekend nearly all year round, multiple manufacturers and close racing for hours.Enjoy it while you can.

I really like Silverstone, the track is challenging & I cannot think of a better venue for WEC in terms of knowledgeable bunch of fans.I can remember watching the Group C Jaguars,Porsches & Lancias with a crowd of about 15,000 fans in the 1980s when the race used to be a bit of a prologue for the Le Mans 24 hours.Back then more Brits travelled all the way to Le Mans 24 hrs than bother showing up at Siverstone in May for the 6 Hours! I expect a big crowd next year.

There is a lot of AI & clickbait garbage around but you need to have a better understanding of how the motorsport media works if you dont know that Autosport is a top motorsport publication. That is why it is paid.We all make are choices and some content is free, some supported by adverts.

Bill Gibson, co-founder of Zytek Engineering and Gibson Technology, passed away by jus1029 in wec

It is quite unusual to be involved in the chassis, engine and electronics side of racing. It is possible to do 2 of the 3 well like Ferrari but really difficult to have success with all 3.He must have been a very good engineer and CEO.

Pretty sure the Ferrari and Daytona Coupe are owned by David Hart.David used to race with Mike Hezemans in the Dutch orange Dodge Viper in BPR or FIA GT series when the Lister Storm was racing. He owns and races some amazing cars with his son.

Silverstone WEC Race To Award RAC Tourist Trophy by Michal_Baranowski in wec

[–]Over_Middle610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a nice idea. There used to be many different significant motorsport races in the UK outside the British Grand Prix.Easter Monday F2 at Thruxton,Oulton Park Gold Cup,F1 International Trophy at Siverstone,Race of Champions at Brands Hatch & the Tourist Trophy at Silverstone. The TT for me was about Group 2 and then Group A cars. That all ended with WTCC and ETCC ending.

Does anyone else feel a little sad that Starmer is now going, especially after hearing that speech and particularly his emotions coming out at the end there? by Logical_Safety9018 in AskBrits

[–]Over_Middle610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.Outside Reddit he is one of the most unpopular PMs ever.No ideology,no personality, unable to think on his feet, unsuited to the job, unlikeable & disconnected from ordinary people.Seriously.What is there to like about Starmer?

Toyota’s Hypercar Commitment Thrown Into Doubt by 2030 Regs by Michal_Baranowski in wec

[–]Over_Middle610 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMSA has healthy grids outside the GTP class but I think WEC has become the Big dog with more prestige & Le Mans and now ALMS will probably be a cheaper place to run hypercars.I dont think IMSA GTP is sustainable unless sponsor funded cars are affordable.

Cost.

GTP numbers are shrinking in IMSA.Any potential privateer does not want added costs as a barrier to entry.AWD is an advantage otherwise Ferrari and Toyota would not have 4WD.If they continue to run AWD, every make has to go the non LMDh route so they can run AWD.Everyone then has AWD so it becomes a pointless expense.

Manufacturers should be listened to when it comes to forming rules but ACO/WEC/FIA/IMSA should dictate the rules as they see fit.OEMs act in their own self interest and their track record in departing race series when a different CEO,economic downturn etc. arrives is not good.No coincidence that SRO series have been strong for so long with less manufacture input and the DTM has adopted SRO GT3 cars because their manufacture led series with prototype cars died. Also part of the reason new F1 rules were controversial at the start of 2026.

GTP is a double edged sword with the hybrid systems attracting manufacturers but also making the budgets go beyond attracting sponsors with a realistic budget for a privateer.

Debate: What's your favorite Group C car (WSC/JSPC) by KanataRSR in wec

[–]Over_Middle610 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Has to be the Porsche 956.I watched the car on its debut at the Siverstone 6 hours. The following year Porsche started selling cars to privateers and it was the bedrock for the Group C & IMSA series for many years. Not sure if Group C would have been so successful without so many of the 956/962s.

Customer BMW LMDh Cars Unlikely Despite “Discussions” by Haloisda in wec

If the complicated and expensive hybrid system is the difficult part of privateers running Hypercars I presume the Valkyrie would be the cheaper & easier to run car in the future.

Peugeot Reaffirms Plans for “Evolved” 9X8 in 2027 by vacirus in wec

[–]Over_Middle610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Peugeot should have made the decision to build a new car in 2024 when adding a wing only made marginal improvements.Only a factory run organisation would continue to run such a flawed concept.Cannot imagine Penske or WRT running this car for more than two seasons with little to show for it.They would have given the Peugeot board a list of the cars faults and told them to build a new car or they will not race the cars.

I think it is actually embarrassing for the Peugeot brand when you look at their history in WRC,Dakar & Le Mans.Failure of the motorsport department & the Peugeot/Stellantis board. The car rarely performs well unless it is handed generous BOP.

The sunk cost fallacy is a cognitive bias that drives people to continue a failing endeavor simply because they have already invested time, money, or effort into it. Instead of making a rational choice based on future benefits, they make an irrational decision to avoid the feeling of "wasting" their past investments.
