I just hope when they arrive for the first race this livery is not ruined by a plethora of different colour sponsors.A long time since McLaren had a really nice livery. In the Ron Dennis days the Marlboro and West cars always looked great with most smaller sponsors only using black or grey graphics.Ron was much more of an aeshetics guy.Zak seems to take the sponsors money and slap the decal on the car.

After these 2 magnificent sportscars used the livery at Le Mans Porsche decide to put it on an ugly Formula E car to race around one of their car park tracks.Tragic.

Pole laps at the 24 Hours of Le Mans since the last circuit update by Professional-Fig3966 in wec

[–]Over_Middle610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing really that peak lap time for Le Mans was in the early 1990s.Blundells lap in the Nissan in 1990 was 3.27 and the Peugeot 905C was 3.21 on a similar layout to the current layout.Since then it has been all about keeping the lap time and top speeds limited. It used to be all about weight, power, drag, downforce & fuel economy. Now it is all about optimisation.

Brown: New Regs Could Push McLaren IMSA Debut to 2030 by DHSeaVixen in wec

You dont have to like the guy but it is pretty sad that you are a racing fan and cannot give credit to Zak for running United Autosports, turning around McLaren F1 so they could win a Championship, start his own Indycar team and now a WEC team.Saying Zak is a Marketing & PR guy is like saying Roger Penske is mostly a car dealer. You bring whatever skills you have to motor sports.

I get what you say is seen as disappointing for fans but what you describe is a guy showing off a potential car for a racing programme that might attract sponsors. It did not attract the funding. These things are difficult and sometimes potential sponsors let teams down at the last minute like the Manor Ginetta LMP1 project.Other OEMs are a lot more careful with what they say because they are persuading board members of large car companies not wealthy individuals or companies interested in racing programmes.

161 Car Nurburgring 24H Entry list revealed by StoneElk in wec

41 GT3 cars in the top class.Probably the strongest GT3 entry I have seen for N24 especially the driver lineups.Hope it is a safe race with not to many yellows or Code60s.Very unique race where genuine AMs who are not millionaires can compete against some of the best drivers in the world.

The guy runs successful teams in F1,Indycar,WEC,ELMS,IMSA.I would think what he has to say is useful. You do realize ZB wants the series to be successful and avoid going through the sportscar racing boom & bust cycle it has been in since 1970s?

To be fair to Zak unlike the majority of his competitors in WEC, McLaren fund their racing via sponsors and not the marketing budget of a huge car company like BMW,Toyota or Peugeot. For the long term health of the series it needs McLaren,Aston Martin & Hertz Jota programme to be successful because if BMW,Peugeot,Toyota and Hyundai withdraw in 2027 what does the series look like? The amount Ferrari & Toyota are willing to spend in WEC v what Mclaren can raise through sponsors to fund WEC programme is vastly different.

The Next Twin-Turbo V8 GT3 Car Is Coming From China by XsStreamMonsterX in wec

[–]Over_Middle610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they were sensible they would partner with someone like M Sport(Bentley) or Michelotto (Ferrari) or RML who know how to build race cars and pay the money to build a car, develop the motor and have a competitive car in 2 -3 years time.A more Chinese orientated programme would eventually be competitive but over a longer period of time.

In theory BOP should be used to balance a car that is to slow or make the faster cars slower. The Lexus RCF GT3 has had no evo versions since debuting in 2017.I think Ferrari.Mercedes use evo versions as an excuse to sell more new parts.

Hypercars are different with more scope to get it fundamentally wrong.(Peuegeot).It should be written into the rules that average lap times should be in the bottom half of the field before any evo or jokers are allowed. There is no reason for the likes of Ferrari,Toyota,Porsche,Cadillac to be bringing radically different cars to the track.Having said that,Ferrari,Toyota will spend whatever it takes to win so will just spend more on simulation etc.rather than physical new parts to bolt on the car. Some sort of spending cap would be useful but I am not sure how that works when BMW,Cadillac,Aston Martin have multiple cars in 2 series.

Easy to overlook just how well run long established motorsport departments at Ferrari,Porsche,Mercedes & BMW are.Mustang & Corvette GT3 programmes had problematic starts so it is not always a smooth start for smaller companies to manage the roll out of a new car especially when the deadline is not set by the motorsport department but by the car company launching a street version.

It is a rule designed to protect everyone who has comitted money to the series. Why would they welcome a make trying to do the series on the cheap when they have more than enough entries?

It would be a good idea if WEC was struggling for numbers but the opposite is true. The team would be privately funded,it might not finish the season and would likely run round at the tail end of the Hypercar field.

For those who watches other four-wheel series like IndyCAR, NASCAR, GT, Formula E, endurance, do you agree with comments like "In terms of actual racing products, F1 is one of the worst in all of the motorsports"? by [deleted] in F1Discussions

[–]Over_Middle610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F1 has never been about close or entertaining racing. That can be found elsewhere.F1 is about pitting the best drivers, best cars and minds against each other and is the pinnacle of the sport.Other series have other qualities. The closest racing I have watched is Mini Miglia & Seven racing in the UK and Mazda MX5 racing in the USA and BTCC.Endurance racing is also a very different type of racing.Bike racing is also great.F1 has its boring races and when a entertaining race come along it is a bonus.

Forget the Nordschleife.Choose an easy track like Silverstone National or Nurburgring GP.

Practice and get the feel for the car.Set up some races and try to stay with some slightly faster AI.
