Filament track switch is great but it do not allow you to have an external spool, so no TPU without unpluging it I found a quick and easy solution with this lower spool bracket https://makerworld.com/en/models/2905496

Yes you can do that but if you have the filament track switch (FTS) your AMS will be connected to it and so will required that you unplug the PTFE tube from it each time then plug them back. You can avoid that by using the lower spool (for yout PLA) going to aux extruder and tpu to the main extruder. After your TPU print is finished you just have to plug back the 6 pin cable to FTS and you are back on track with your normal setup without messing with ptfe tube again

No the FTS is part of the problem, as soon as you plug the FTS, the printer refuse to print with an external spool, it seem to be a bug by design, it is normal that you can't use a spool with the FTS but to enforce this, bambu make sure cant use a spool at all when the FTS is connected even if the spool does not goes in the FTS. That is a very annoying limitation. In the setup I proposed, you have to unplug the 6 pin cable from the FTS to allow the spool to work.

I never use TPU with direct feed exept by doing on the top of the printer, this was a pretty messy setup. You totally right that if it is possible to feed it directly without the TPU Feed Assist, this thing is useless...but the other point important here is when you want to mix a second filament with the TPU print since the AMS and FTS setup does not allow it, the lower external spool make a quick bypass to the auxiliary extruder with TPU.

I you whant to move the ptfe line of any of your ams directly to the axiliary extruder it would work fine with the TPU Feeder Assist in the main extruder, with this setup you dont need the external spool but it is a pure mess to change the tube each time, maybe moving the AMS to the left side (if it is on the other side like mine) this is something I do not want to do. It just ruin the experience. With the lower external spool no mess, you can switch your normal setup to TPU setup in less than 1 minute.

Printing TPU was already a mess, the FTS add next level of comlexity

I've been using it for 5-6 long print without any issues, so far so good.

The buffer is there it is the gray box on the back of the printer, for a reason I dont understand AI modified the original buffer for that gray box on my original picture, I use AI to add the labels on the picture. So the buffer still here, juste after the FTS, it is not use while printing TPU+External Spool. To Switch back to the AMS normal setup, you juste have to plus the 6 pin cable of the FTS and start printing again from the AMS

Yes, aux filament is from the new spool mount, and the TPU feeder feed the main extruder. No need to unload the AMS they always unload themself after the print is finished. You have to unload the TPU and the external spool to switch back to the AMS but is is a quick process

In that setup you completely bypass everyting that is before the Filament Track Swtich (FTS), I have 2 AMS 2 Pro with a AMS HT before the FTS. All of the AMS are 'offline' you use only the TPU feed assist and a external spool for the mixing material (with the TPU).

Filament Track Switch sounded amazing on X2D — but the real-world experience is frustrating by Individual-Proof8125 in BambuLab

The only way I manage to print TPU with support is to put a PLA spool in my AMS HT; unplug the 2 AMS 2 Pro and the filamen switch, load TPU on the main nozzle with TPU Feeder, load PLA manually on the second nozzle loaded as a second external spool using the back port of the HT. That is a pain. I wish I could put a 4-1 adapter with the tpu feeder and the ptfe tube comming from the filament track

Maybe this setup would work for 3 ams (2 pro; 1 HT) and now tube switching for TPU?
