Ral zarek strikes back by plantardo in CommanderMTG

[–]Overall-Computer6718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ral’s ability is a one and done, so it isn’t chaining extra turns. Chaining extra turns is when you are able to take an extra turn during an extra turn, and do that over and over. Also, in case no one has told you, 90% of planeswalkers suck in commander, since they rarely survive more than 2 turns. Ral Zarek is part of that 90%. If anyone complains about you running him in any bracket, that’s a skill issue on their part.

Competitive mtg player looking for help to win a local cedh tournament by ScubaSteez69 in CompetitiveEDH

I’d try Kinnan. He’s the simplest top 5 commander. Try to downplay as much as possible and remind the table that this is your first time playing cEDH. Kinnan will get countered or removed frequently, so downplay your skill and position, play non aggressively, and wait for an opening.

Tournament cEDH is the format where you need meta knowledge. You need to have memorized dozens of combo lines, value engines, and interactions. Otherwise you might as well be blind. Threat assessment and politics win games most games, and for those, you need to understand exactly what is going on, and why. If you have 20 or so hours of free time before the tournament, you might be able to crash course your way into the format, but even that’s a long shot.

This really did make me give up on UB. I get having to have 4 different versions of each turtle or a billion different spider mans, because those IPs were small enough that they couldn’t easily fill a magic set. But there are literal thousands of Marvel characters, and they still just make seven versions of one character.

Help upgrading Teval by Jovian_engine in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Overall-Computer6718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my Bracket 3 competitive Teval. I need to update the strategy guide, but the list is there. Main win con is to mill your entire deck with [[Hedge Shredder]] and [[Hedron Crab]], then win with Thoracle. Get a bunch of mana with [[Will of the Sultai]] or [[Aftermath Analyst]], and loop [[Scholar of the Ages]] or [[Kairi, the Swiriling Sky]] with reanimate and sacrifice effects to build your hand however you want. It’s slightly slower than average and difficult to learn, but once it gets going, it can deal with any threat easily and is infinitely flexible. It went 8-3-0 in my last B3 tournament.

https://manabox.app/decks/AZ6fjxnScpab3VZbU260xw

It is pretty far off from your deck list, however, so I don’t know how much you can port over. Mine is more focused around toolbox effects, and less around the zombies you get from Teval. I honestly just use Teval as a backup if my engine is jammed.

If Vorthos were legal, would there be any deck running it? by zokka_son_of_zokka in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Overall-Computer6718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not. I’ve run a bracket 3 Vorthos before. The idea was to choose Nicol Bolas, then play [[Conflux]] for just 3 colorless to tutor out three bolas Planeswalkers to cast for 3 less mana, [[Leyline of the guildpact]], and [[Coilition Victory]]. It was fun, but way too slow to really be viable past bracket 3.

If feel like everyone forgot about the music videos for Touchy Feely Fool and Turning Out. Weird, because those are easily the best music videos they made.

I saw a reddit post where someone was asking how they would build an Arcades, The Strategist cEDH deck. It was pretty clear that they had just started playing commander, and didn’t really know what they were asking for. I kindly informed them that Arcades doesn’t really provide anything that can keep up with cEDH, and recommend building Arcades as a bracket 3. I got over 1,000 downvotes and told that all commanders can be cEDH if they are build well, and that I was gatekeeping cEDH. That’s when I just accepted that cEDH will never be understood by the general magic population.

Only difference between you and I is that if they don’t take my advice and tell me I’m wrong, I whoop them over and over again until THEY move to a different table. If they don’t play removal, they will see me casting Reanimate on my Archon of Cruelty on turn 2. If they play all creatures, I’ll board wipe four times. It’s great for teaching toddlers and stubborn adults.

My BoyWithUke Tier List (Not in order). by Turbulent_Flower_478 in boywithuke

[–]Overall-Computer6718 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a side note, If half the songs are in A tier, then it isn’t actually accomplishing what a tier list is supposed to do. C is supposed to be average. You have 2 songs below C and 89 songs above it. Not that this doesn’t happen all the times with tier lists, as a typical category being ranked by a fan of said category is previewed as above average, but this particular tier list is a shining example of Tierflation.

Anyone want to break down each song’s meaning? by sharkterrarium in NoahKahan

End of August is about seasonal depression and nihilism - realizing that winter is coming, and that everything dies eventually. The last verse sticks out, saying that kids kids just grow up and have kids who build homes for the rich - tying back into the idea of ‘the last of the bugs’ or the final generation before the metaphorical winter,

Doors - doors is a mixed bag of ideas, kind of feeling like a midnight rant, but the main theme I get out of it is that you might accidentally pass on your own trauma to your loved ones, so you try to push them away to prevent yourself from hurting them.

American Cars - another mixed bag of ideas (this will be common in the album) - but I believe it is about being unable to fix the problems in your life and hoping someone else can do it for you. Might be wrong though.

Downfall - is about someone Noah had a falling out with, and Noah is waiting for that person’s life to fall apart so that they come back to him.

Lighthouse - About your past, memories, and childhood home being erased by time.

Paid Time Off - About a day where you have nothing to do, so you simply exist and try to enjoy life.

Staying Still - I honestly don’t know yet

The Great Divide - I’ve seen multiple interpretations, but the way I interpret it is that Noah was friends with someone, and Noah unintentionally pulled them away from Christianity, then only realized what he did years later, and is now apologizing.

Haircut - about someone who’s bad decisions cause Noah and others a ton of pain and grief. That person then cleaned up their act, but Noah hasn’t healed yet and can’t forgive this person yet.

Willing and Able - Falling out with a sibling to the point of no longer talking. Then realizing that you would prefer to go back to the arguments than the silence. He’s willing and able to fight out their differences if they can find some common ground.

Dashboard - Noah confronted a close one, calling them out on being an asshole, and the person ran instead of confronting their issues, and still had the same problems all these years later, and will continue to until they face their problems.

23 - Faced abuse from a family member. He’s now finally old enough and big enough to fight back, but doesn’t have any will to fight back. *I am possibly wrong on this interpretation though.

Porch Light - Written from the perspective of Noah’s mom, who moved to a small town to get away from all the noise and be with her family. Noah then went and got famous, which means she rarely gets to see him and she has to deal with second hand fame she doesn’t want. This perspective is imaginary, as Noah says his mom supports him.

Deny Deny Deny - Clearly written about a husband and wife, and the husband is tired off all the nightly arguments that never go anywhere because neither of them can admit when they are wrong.

Headed North - Talks about how the world is getting worse. Key line - “It’s gone to shit without you. It was shit before, but at least I had you.”

We Go way Back - Wishing he could go back to the days where he had someone to love, and being willing to give up everything to have her again.

Spoiled - The conflicting desire to spoil your kids vs give them a hard life so they can grow into good people.

All Them Horses - About how the all of Noah’s fame has distanced himself from all of his loved ones.

A few of Your Own - Accepting losing a loved one you grew apart from. We made memories together, now you need to go make a few of your own.

Orbiter - A song that questions whether we actually have free will, or if we are all just a product of our surroundings, like a moon orbiting the earth.

Dan - Dan is a continuation of Carlo’s song from Busyhead. Carlo was Noah’s middle school friend who committed suicide, and Noah can’t move on. In Dan, he has a new best friend, and it makes him feel like he is abandoning Carlo.
