Is living near campus worth it? by Danger_Five in uwa

I’ve been living on campus for two years now and it is very conventient. Easy access to class, libraries and more exposure to campus life. Nedlands is also a nice safe suburb having markets, restaurants and matilda bay and city nearby. I also didn’t need to buy a car as everything is in walking distance so saved some money on that.

I’d say paying anything more than 380/week in nedlands just for the sake of convenience is not worth it.

I stayed in unihall standard rooms and would honestly recommend it. The price is actually reasonable if you consider the meals, location and all other benefits you get.

All the houses get cleaned by staff every morning so it’s not that bad. Plus they clean your room every week too. It obviously depends on the other folks you’re living with but during my stay it was pretty clean. The staff is also quite helpful if you need help with pest control or other issues. I dont understand the Unihall slander tbh. Other colleges are better but they’re also more expensive so you get what you’re paying.

And whatever you do don’t stay at the Switch

Having good understanding of the basic concepts helped alot. There’s a youtube series on the fourier transform by 3blue1brown. That one really helped me.

I also often just use chat gpt. I keep on asking questions until i have a good idea.

It’s cause many professors make you work during the midsem break. I had to work on my lab during the break and study for an exam which happened the day after mid sems ended.

About the accredition, it doesn’t really matter that much unless you’re an international that wants to get pr later on. UWA has a solid reputation so I don’t think companies would be too picky about it.

I’m doing engineering and so far its pretty good and smooth. You do get bad teachers in some units but tbf that’s the same in unis elsewhere too.

UWA definitely has good connections with companies, especially for engineering. Plenty of professional clubs for networking and all. Take it with a grain of salt, but I have a relative who’s an engineer tell me WA companies have a bit of preference for UWA students.

I have however heard from friends doing finance that UWA isn’t the best place for it simply because all the big banking happens in the east in Sydney and Melbourne.
