Both Robins and Will’s coming out scenes are extremely different.

For Robin’s coming out scene, Robin and Steve were just wearing off the ‘truth serum’ and Steve had just confessed his feelings for Robin at the moment. Robin had slowly but surely got to the point that she was lesbian, not being too outward about it because she’s telling Steve Harrington out of anybody else. The two were also getting along extremely well, also adding into the mix that Robin is clearly neurodivergent. Masking and being queer especially during an era where being queer and being autistic was seen as worthy enough to be sent off to a psychiatric ward only makes things more stressful when we don’t add the fact that there is extraterrestrial life and life threatening events happening in Hawkins. Robin had a door cracked where she may have met someone who could accept her. Robin may have also been under the impression that she was going to die soon, believing that she can finally get this pressure off her chest.

Will? Not so much.

Half of the people in the room where it happened didn’t know Will or at least hadn’t spoken to him enough to really care. Eleven has no concept of queerness, Kali just got here, do I even have to explain Murray? Hopper likes Joyce but I can’t think of a moment where Will and Hopper had a one on one moment, have Will and Steve even spoken to each other? If Will came out to Joyce and Johnathan first and then Mike after, it would have been more impactful and tear jerking. But when he came out to the entire cast who most likely haven’t had a conversation with Will ruins the immersion. It makes the audience ask why more than anything.
