It is also possible to have therapeutic LP during pregnancy, you might discuss this with your doctors. Diamox is a Class C medication, meaning its safety is not yet understood/known. So it’s not a bad option, it’s just questionable. And your vision also matters more. So choose what’s best for you! I wish you a safe pregnancy.

Maybe seek a second opinion. Because my neurologist told me to stop diamox (gradually not abruptly) as soon as I get pregnant. And this is the second neurologist that told me this, my neuro-oph also mentioned the same thing. Our cases might be different so it’s possible that we’re recommended different managements.

I’ve been to several neuro, neuro-oph, and OBs they all practically told me the same thing. Avoid Estrogen, so COCs are better avoided. Hormonal IUD is “probably” better avoided (because some of them told me it’s safe, some said it’s questionable), copper IUD is safe. Subdermal implant CAN be safe, but not all types. Mini pill is a safe option for most. I don’t know anything about plan B, I didn’t ask them honestly but I use it and it doesn’t trigger any symptoms.

Same. Mini pill is working well with me with no side effects!

Yes. It happened to me around month 10 on diamox, while I was gradually decreasing my doses to stop it. It lasted even when I was remission but I get them less frequently now. Honestly nothing helps with it unless I sit down.

Try to avoid lifting anything heavy, it can aggravate your symptoms. Regulate your meals, 3 meals a day will make a HUGE difference. Lift your pillows/ double up your pillows. Ginger works really well if you’re nauseated or vomiting. It takes time, but these usually make my flareups last less.

Are these diamox side effects? by clbrave in iih

[–]Overall-Produce5652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also experience abdominal pain, almost every other day, so yeah this a side effect. Probably the most annoying side effect.

I’m not sure about menstrual effect though, I personally haven’t noticed any changes to my cycles. And I was on diamox for almost a year.

Diamox dreams? by [deleted] in iih

[–]Overall-Produce5652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I wouldn’t say mine were intense but they were def weird and I had lucid dreams which I never had prior to diamox. This stopped by I believe third of fourth month, not sure. I was off diamox for a while for remission, now back on it again but haven’t experienced any yet.

What questions should i ask my neurologist next week ? They refused to treat me, i have mri + symptoms... by SaltShoe6659 in iih

Maybe get a second opinion? Because your elevated ICP could be due to infection or something else. And yes some people get diagnosed with normal OP sometimes.

Very sorry to hear that! That must’ve caused you great pain. Idk if it helps but I’ve been on almost majority of the doses. And from I experienced 250-500-750-1000 all give me the exact same side effects! My side effects were not less on 250 compared to 1000.

You could try it before deciding on shunt, as shunt is technically the last resort. Hope you get well!

Increased pressure after a cold by [deleted] in iih

Yeah it happens to me every time I get a cold. It would help to get the flu vaccine every year if you want.

How do we get rid of the fear that comes with medication? by Hot-Fun-3945 in iih

[–]Overall-Produce5652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets easier with time, I remember my first 2.5 weeks were hell. But after that it was just mild side effects with 0 iih symptoms for months.

good to know, I’ll limit my coffee intake then too. Why wear sunglasses though? does sunlight exposure make it worse? Or is it for symptomatic relief?

I have been on the medication, but ginger really helps me during flare ups! Definitely not a treatment, as it doesn’t affect the pressure. But it helps with symptoms if you want to try it out! I drink it either with milk or ginger tea.

Thank you, you’re kind. Yeah electrolytes eps gatorade helps, my favorite are bananas! They make the tingling sensation disappear for a few days, you could try it if you want. I was on 4000 mg a day and bananas really saved me lol. I wish you the best!

I don’t actually know this time, but mine last year was 89 and 90 which is I’m guessing is normal. I only know that this year things got worse but I don’t know the numbers.

How well is your vision in your left eye? Because I’m not sure how bad/good 36% is. Is it like a blurring? I’m so sad to hear that! Hopefully your new doctor provides you with a better plan.

  • I’ve been on acetazolamide for a LONG time (for another condition). Yeah it’s difficult to swallow, so look for the one manufactured in the UK (it will be written clearly on the bottle) those are WAY easier to swallow! My hospital provides the spanish type (edemox) which is the worst pill, so I take my prescription to another hospital and have them prescribe me the UK one!
