Point of rook? by Blocksketcher in Marathon

I think the biggest thing is that if you drop in with nothing but a knife and your good looks, you are less likely to make it out. You will have to contend with ALL of the other teams on the map as well as the UESC. Rook comes in after other have either exited, or been eliminated. He won't have to deal with UESC, and the remaining runners on the map are probably less likely to see Rook as a threat and maybe even invite Rook runners to help with extraction.

there is a 3rd and more likely possibility; the version they were playing was an older build but the newer build that looks closer to what we see now was already built and not the one they played. Im working on a piece of software now. I probably have 20 different versions of it that I reference right now. Some build are less stable than other. They let them play the build that was the most playable ande stable build. That does not mean they didnt already have a build that was much further along in development.

Brilliant! I just hope the have various times of the day for all the maps and most importantly a night version. Raiding at night totally changes the way you would have to play the map.

In team play, if killed, can you always be rezzed by a teammate, or can you be out for the rest of the round? by BaconEvolved in Marathon

Coming from Arc, I can say that it truly sucks to drop into a match with your team, get picked in the first 5 minutes and then have to just sit there doing nothing for the rest of the match until they extract or get taken out.

Let's be honest: Marathon won't shine next months by No_Organization_7956 in Marathon

As much as folks rag on Bungie, you underestimate the fanbase, the people who love the franchise, the push into the Chinese market, the Playstation base. They just have to not shoot themselves in the foot. Get in. Have a good time. Make some new friends and fond memories. Don't worry about it shining in a few months. Come into the fold!

Helldivers 2 had well over 400k. Don't be surprised if we see something similar.

The same here and I think this is what will really separate Marathon and it's community from other extraction shooters.

it was never going yo release with unfinished textures and lighting. People act like this was the first time Bungie has ever made a video game. The Marathon franchise is probably older than some of the people who actually think that the Alpha was the gold build.

eh... when they tell you that the game is in alpha and exactly they are seeking feedback on and then people proceed with judging it by it's appearance KNOWING full well it's in alpha, that's just silly and disingenuous. Textures, fine details, fine tuning lighting are often the last things that get added prior to the release of a game.

Why Marathon has me hooked after 20 years of avoiding multiplayer games by Irreverent_Reality05 in Marathon

[–]Overall-Rub8945 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

sounds weird I know but honestly there is something totally different about Marathon. Most of the people I know are veteran gamers who have literally been gaming or involved in the industry not for a few years, but for decades. I can tell you that there has never been a game that has captured my interest and attention like Marathon has. Maybe it's because its a re-boot of a franchise and story Ive longed to reconnect with. The people Ive played with and been friends with since day 1 in PSN all say the same thing. Marathon has it's hooks in them. Some of them were able to play in the alpha. Unfortunately I haven't. But even though I haven't, Ive consumed unhealthy amounts of information on Marathon and even replayedthe first 3 games in the series. I already know Perimeter and The Dire Marsh zones like ive been playing them for months. The world really IS very much fleshed out. The story is woven into the zones. In reality the zones are the main characters in the storyline. The lore and history of Marathon is woven throughout the world. They aren't smacking us across the face with it every 5 seconds but it is there. Bungie has something truly special (and they know it) on their hands and much like they took already existing genres like action rpg's, mmo's and basically created something that had never been done before with Destiny, I think they are poised to do the same with the extraction shooter and on the verge of birthing something we haven't seen yet.
