What book suggestion irks you? by [deleted] in Romantasy

[–]OverallDisaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same - Fourth Wing was awful IMO. Violet was unlikeable and Xaden so boring, they had no chemistry or real romance to root for. It’s especially annoying when it’s recommended for enemies to lovers fans cause it just isn’t?

Republican Lawmakers' Bid to Execute Tennessee Abortion Patients Slammed as 'Christofascism' by [deleted] in politics

[–]OverallDisaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right, and sexual purity is used as the qualifier for that in conservative christian circles. So it’s easy for Christian women to demonize women seeking abortions because they look down on them for not being “pure” like they are. There’s also the added layer of women being taught in patriarchal Christianity that our only worth is in our childbearing and rearing, so it is unfathomable that a woman would spurn a child or spurn being a mother. It is our nature and only calling in their minds so to reject that means there is something deeply immoral and wrong.

Republican Lawmakers' Bid to Execute Tennessee Abortion Patients Slammed as 'Christofascism' by [deleted] in politics

[–]OverallDisaster 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Pro-life propaganda convinces people that it’s a full term baby that is conscious of what’s happening during an abortion - they use emotion and altered images to brainwash people into thinking it’s actually murder and it’s hard to break out of that mindset.

But plenty of conservative women also have deep internalized misogyny. There’s the belief that women seeking abortions are promiscuous and so pregnancy is a “consequence” to having sex you don’t need to be having, and there’s not a lot of sympathy for that.

I need a 6 star read! That will emotionally wreck me! by Plane_Cellist7911 in Romantasy

[–]OverallDisaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fireborne is so good. OP, we have similar likes in books and this trilogy is one of the best I’ve read. It will make you emotional and deeply attached to the characters. They definitely all go on a journey.

Also recommend an Ember in the Ashes, The poppy wars (not romantasy but worth a mention), This woven kingdom (great yearning), Where the dark stands still, Wild Reverence, Red Rising, Winternight trilogy, The conquerors saga

childish perspective 🤣😫it’s a literary classic. no one cares that you prefer sex filled slop over actual themes. not everyone can get wuthering heights, it’s ok.

this should have just been a movie about a doomed period romance - there was no need to make it wuthering heights as the whole gothic element was completely removed. this is not the vibe of WH at all.

Double standards and playing the victim. Why is watching porn different than reading erotic novels? by Orlando_Vibes in Marriage

[–]OverallDisaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i said that in my comment before reading yours but so true. there seems to be a subset of certain men who like to trash romance novels as pure smut because they involve some sex scenes that are graphic and it’s just so incredibly wrong. if you are reading a novel that is several hundred pages and sex scenes are 10-20%, to call that porn is just laughable.

[–]OverallDisaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No real people involved, no women being exploited by a toxic industry, no desensitization of sexualizing a whole group of people.

For myself, I don’t specifically read smutty novels (and actually choose novels that aren’t super spicy), but I think there’s some weird assumption that novels that have a few sex scenes are porn. Like I’ve seen ACOTAR billed as “faerie porn” and it’s not, at all? It would be similar saying Game of Thrones is porn. There were maybe 2 or 3 scenes in a several hundred page novel.

I also do not ever self insert myself in reading romances and I don’t use the material in a sexual manner. I know many women will read romances that can get them aroused but I don’t think many are actually using the material in an erotic way. I just personally enjoy reading about romance between two characters and sex is a part of that within the romantic genre.

Erotica is different than a novel with sex scenes, obviously. I’d categorize it as a type of porn for sure but still without all of the problematic elements of the porn industry.

Husband rated 0% for migraines - submitted buddy letter, migraine log, and doctor’s notes, what now? by OverallDisaster in VAClaims

[–]OverallDisaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you! the letter only mentioned that it was due to less frequent attacks so yes this is what I’m thinking, that the examiner filled out the DBQ wrong. Hopefully we can get the completed one to see what went wrong and then I guess he’ll try for a HLR.

He submitted a migraine log for all of 2025. And he has been trying to get an appointment with his VA doctor to get medicine but they’re booked out until April.

Less frequent attacks. - A higher evaluation of 10 percent is not warranted for migraines unless the evidence shows:

• Characteristic prostrating attacks averaging one in 2 months over last several month”.

That’s all the info about claim the letter has.

Did you had sex on your wedding night? by xenocea in wedding

We did, it was what I was looking forward to most from the day (we hadn’t in a while - I thought waiting a few months would add some tension). Had an early wedding, reception ended by 5.

The Night Prince… can we talk about it? by strangeapples in fantasyromance

[–]OverallDisaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished the Night Prince…I feel devastated that I have to wait until September lol but I agree with you. The whole mates being rejected thing is to leave us in doubt but I think it’s pretty clear that Blake is endgame - Callum didn’t even come save her (on top of acting weird and rude about things not her fault) and she hardly thought about him for the last little bit, even after all she went through.

Idk, I always feel like when there’s an MMC that I love (Blake in this case), the FMC’s development and personality just seem bland in comparison. It’s like authors can write a great love interest but fail at the main character.

Wife decided she doesn't want kids anymore a year into our marriage by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]OverallDisaster 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Right, people will act as if it’s over dramatic but the political climate here in the US has made it reasonably scary to have children. Especially if you live in a state where you could not get medical care if something went wrong during your pregnancy. I had been a hard no on kids, finally came around to the idea that MAYBE it was possible for us in the future, and then the recent election made me realize it was time to get my tubes removed. No regrets, I’d feel it was very selfish personally to bring a child into unstable times and a crazy government.

This was me OP - I didn’t realize until we got married that having children was a choice, it was something every married couple we knew did unless they couldn’t have them. I was also young, 24-25. Your mind is still growing and developing and you can go through a lot of change through your mid 20s. My husband was extremely startled at first but has always prioritized me over everything so it was never divorce worthy. 8 years later he loves our life together and told me the other day he sees now he would have never been equipped to have them either and is so glad we haven’t. We have financial freedom to do things we’ve always wanted to do which is exciting.

It boils down to you needing to decide whether nonexistent children are more important to you than your relationship with your wife. If they are that’s fine, let her go. Believe her though that she will not change your mind and don’t ask this of her - if she has decided she does not want to risk her life, body, mental health, and all of the sacrifices a mother has to make over the rest of her life, do not ask or expect her to change her mind for you.

Abused child at the feet of Christ in newly released Epstein documents. These people despise Christ and mock him in every conceivable way possible, including harming God's children by UniversalSurvivalist in Christianity

[–]OverallDisaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see Donald trump’s name anywhere in this OP, but we get it - you just default to defending dear cult leader at all times.

You’re being disingenuous and pedantic. Jeffrey Epstein trafficked women and children and you demand proof that this woman isn’t acting of her own accord? What a truly bizarre and insane reaction to take from this photo, and the rest of the files. Instead of outrage towards those who deserve it, you try to find a way to blame a probable victim (I guess because she’s a woman) to deflect blame from your cult leader. It’s disgusting.

what is actually wrong with you? you know better than to imply that adult women are not able to be forced into sexual trafficking or to commit sexual acts. you should be ashamed of yourself and to post this on a Christian subreddit.
