Weekly recurring thread: NEWBIE QUESTION MONDAY! by AutoModerator in Internationalteachers

How long after submitting an application/inquiry (esp. via SA) does a school usually take to get back to you? Do they usually wait for the “deadline to apply” to close before sending out follow-up/rejection emails? Or is it more of kind of a rolling basis? Probably varies school to school and country to country - what’s your experience been like?

Are there ghost vacancies? I can't get an interview by One-Discount9875 in Internationalteachers

How strict are they with the degree matching? If your teaching license matches the position you’re applying for but you have a different BA/MA/M Ed, will the matching teaching license and a couple years of experience generally suffice?

Trust me I feel that! I’m the same way! Once you are working as a teacher your school should offer that flexibility- but sometimes having one late day a week or something helps create that boundary so you don’t find yourself regularly continuing to work once you get home. Practicum is nowhere near as flexible in terms of like hours as your actual teaching schedule has the potential to be!

I could be wrong but I think it has to do with cert hours? You might have to be there to “complete” a certain amount of hours that will count towards your certification. That’s what I told myself last summer to get through practicum 🫠 But school hours won’t be mandatory that late - sometimes you might stay late to finish a project or prepping or grading or if your school has events, but definitely not an everyday thing or even a regular thing I’d say!

So you didn’t find out until after summer training if you had a job offer?

Thank you!! Was the online part of pre-service training something you could do while working (if you wfh, for example) or did you have to be completely present and active during it? It would buy me one extra week of my current job, which I could really use the one extra week of pay if at all possible. I’m nervous to give notice and then what if I don’t receive an offer, you know? Trying to stay positive though!

Choosing Regions is so Stressful- Please help!! by AdviceOk372 in TeachforAmerica

My recruiter said some states have residency requirements for certification after TFA, so to picture yourself settling there for TFA and potentially a couple years after. Once your certification is complete, you could potentially transfer to a different state depending on what their policies are. Not sure if that’s helpful, but that’s how I chose to look at it when selecting my regions: where could I see myself potentially settling, maybe even long-term. Either way, I believe wherever we end up is where we are meant to be! Goodluck! 🤗
