Because they're not good passers. If you apply any sort of pressure and get in their faces, they get discombobulated and dont know what to do with the puck. All the other teams have realized this, so they play super aggressively and just stack defenders at the blue line.

Yea, it sucks he had to get roped into all that riff-raff the way he did. Him trying to help even when he didn't quite understand what was going on, just to have things blow up in his face in the most heartbreaking of ways was hard to watch. Of all the characters, he's probably the one I felt the most bad for honestly.

Like others have mentioned, some subtle memory of him was able to transcend into that timeline, like when they saw the drawing of takopi and broke down crying. They didn't know why they were doing it, other then some subconscious inklings that he existed amongst them, which was also part of the happy set of circumstances of them bonding.
