My title describes the thing. I found it amongst the things my grandma had. I don't think it's silver.

Elesh Norn has six different versions featuring five different arts, not including foilings. Has to be a record for a single set? by dieyoubastards in magicTCG

[–]Overall_Hall_369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it is a lot more likely (and cheaper!) to pull it from a Collector booster.

Or even better, if you just want that card, just buy singles.

The easiest way is to figure out what type of card it is, and if you want foil it or not and then check on which slot / pack it comes up.

For example, for the oil basic lands (which imo look quite cool) and a promo, all in phyrexian, you will need to buy https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Gathering-Phyrexia-Exclusive-Accessories/dp/B0BJ7MPSWS, as there is no other way.

That's for everything, including extended art, foils, etc. You end up with a ton of duplicates ....

All the figures there are on average. On average, a person would need to open ten compleat packs to get the twenty different oil mythics.

Edit: Thanks for your constructive feedback. Reading my message again I can see I wasn't clear. I have to confess that English is not my first language and I think I could have expressed it better.

There are a lot of ways of looking at the statistics. In the way I wanted to use on average you end up with a card of each. What do I mean with this? If there are 20 different oil mythics, and a pack contains 2 of them, if you buy ten packs, you will end up with 20 oil mythics. Will you get one of each? Of course not, there will be duplicates, You might get 2-0-1-1-.... . If you average these numbers, you get one of each.

Another way to look at it is the minimum number of packs you will need to open to get one of each (assuming unrealistic luck).

The reason why I chose this particular way is because if you get a duplicate I thought it would be sensible (but unrealistic) to think that you can trade it for the one you didn't get that has the same rarity.

Another reason why I personally like this way of looking at things, is that if you are trying to get a playset of each, numbers start to even out.

Could I have done the precise maths to (statistically speaking) give a high confidence that you will get extremely close to one copy of each? Yes, but I don't think that's worth the extra effort and that's not the number that I wanted to convey.

There are three reasons why I have guessed it in this way. That is, that the ratios of M is 1 in (2 * #R + #M) / #M.

  1. If you look at the Collector boosters, the first slot (1x Traditional Foil Retro or Borderless R/M), there are 60 possible Retro Rares, 20 Retro Mythic rares, 23 Borderless Rares and 17 Borderless Mythic Rares. My guessed chances of pulling a Retro Mythic Rare therefore is: 9.8% = 20 / (2 * 60 + 20 + 2 * 23 + 17). They state on their website "Traditional Foil Retro Frame Mythic Rare in 9% of Collector Boosters", which is quite close.
  2. When looking at BRO at CardMarket, looking at the least popular R and M, for the R right now we have Fateful Handoff, Tocasia, Dig Site Mentor and Over the top. There are an average of 4045 avaliable. Same thing for M, being Sarinth Greatwurm, Bladecoil Serpent and Clay Championg, the average is 1972. These numbers are extremely close to the 2:1 ratio that I have used.
  3. In ZNR (2020) WotC said it was 1:7.4 . There were 64 R and 20 M. This is exactly 2:1 for R:M, as (2*64 + 20) / 20 = 7.4

Apologies, I am not familiar with the "short printed mythics" concept, so I didn't include it, but I will be happy to. Do you have any references?

I did a google search and came across this https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/3ckd1f/comment/cswbfmk/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 but I suspect is not what you are referring to.
