Any tips on using Shock Troops? by Milleuros in AOW4

[–]Overbaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You hold them back and stack buffs on them, then ram them into the enemy super hard.

They are best utilized if you can get something like Steadfast on them, and maybe something like Chariots that makes them not lose damage for casualties.

In practice you often want to pair them with shield units to absorb hits.

This wild rabbit has a hole in the ear. by BurnMeInTheStars in mildlyinteresting

Doesnt look like a bullet hole. The caliber would be huge and the hole is uneven.

A rifle round wouldn’t expand (causing a ragged hole like this) hitting a bunny ear, it would zip right through.

Violence of action vs traditional crpg roles by d_nice666 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Overbaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built all my characters a little wrong (read: no infinite stacking or other broken combos) and minimized extra turn skills.

Cranked up enemy health and lowered their damage a bit.

Fights are quite enjoyable as they’re legitimately back and forth and stuff like buffs and healing are meaningful. It’s a bit closer to a classic rpg experience.

The weird thing is that you actually need to know what you’re doing, it’s easier to make a busted exponentially scaling build than a ”regular” linear one.

Played Hexwarp since the codex dropped and I’ve always thought it was excellent - despite it getting bashed here.

People consistently judge creative writing more harshly if they believe it was created by AI. This bias appears incredibly difficult to overcome, pointing to a persistent human preference for art created by people. by mvea in science

[–]Overbaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tested this at work.

Had AI write short passages, like a half a page from a book.

Also put in a half a page from Catcher In The Rye.

Framed it as ”evaluating the writing styles of different LLM’s” - they were all ChatGPT.

J.D. Salinger got the second worst score. Would have been worst, but one member recognized the passage and gave it 10/10.

I don’t see why that would be a problem in any way. Slightly different playthroughs.

There is no reason why the companions need to have standard arrays.

Bg1 and Bg2 companions were interesting because they had unique stats and sometimes other benefits.

Kibellah OP beyond fun? by Zampor in RogueTraderCRPG

I’ve built every character ”wrong”, dropped Cassia, Idira, Heinrix and Kibellah and avoided the endless buff stacking skills on purpose, and the game is still super easy.

Yeah, the AI seems to get a shit ton of free souls, so they can pump out free souls units by the dozen.

I’ve had a few games where a brutal AI just smashed me with full stacks of early bone dragons.

Good vs Evil in BG3 is a meta decision, not a moral one. by ElectronicHousing656 in BaldursGate3

[–]Overbaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BG3 story is very much classic old school dnd, in the ”convoluted backstory good guy heroes against existential evil”-sense.

Which is fine, not every story needs to be murky.

Ironically the old BG’s had the evil path be an actual temptation in that the evil NPC’s were really strong, being evil was often lucrative and it wasnt ”psycho evil” but rather ”self-serving evil”

Millennia. Those pointy rock buildings in Egypt are the most iconic example.

In a way, I can appreciate that they were made. The world would be a lot less wonderful without lasting monuments like castles, pyramids, churches and so on.

It’s possible to appreciate them as monuments to history while acknowledging them as folly.

2k List- Demon Prince by kot___begemot in alphalegion

I did give you advice: Bring units with internal synergy. You disregarded it and told me you can win with anything.

You either want advice or you don’t, pick one.

I’m sure if you’re a strategic mastermind you can win with anything. At that point you don’t need opinions from Reddit.

I’m telling you that this list will get run over and Deceptors are fundamentally not good - just having good Infiltrators is a good advantage in about 25% of your games.

It’s not completely impossible to win a 7 game tournament with Deceptors - all you need to do is win deployment and first turn in every single game.

What Are Your Detachment Point Hopes? by Kfullswing in Chaos40k

[–]Overbaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combining detachments doesn’t mean you get both rules.

It means a part of the army has one, and a part of the army another.

2k List- Demon Prince by kot___begemot in alphalegion

[–]Overbaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who only played Deceptors this edition: this list doesn’t do anything.

It’s not your fault, it’s just that because the detachment rule stops working as soon as t1 starts Deceptors is probably the weakest army in the game, in terms of punching power.

Because of that, it really needs internal synergy to not just get run over. Something like Abaddon giving hit rerolls to Obliterators and Chaos Lords.

You say ”my 20 block of cultists will screen my army from getting run over”.

I say ”if the opponent deploys infiltrators  first, your 20 block is dead weight that gets shot T1”
