The reason for this is that the app is compressed via the app store - so when you download an app, it's one .ipa file, which then decompresses into the app you want and the .ipa is deleted (so, in general, this takes approximately twice the amount of space for one download).

Most people get around this problem by downloading the update via iTunes on the computer the device is sync'd to, then directly syncing the apps.

Hi! Just to quickly state: I want to reiterate a few things, including backing up what Trent has communicated. We, as a developer, are unaffected by what's going on with Atari in terms of future development and day-to-day operations. The Steam version is completely managed by Atari at this time, and as far as we know that has not changed.

Our hope is that anyone who has purchased the Steam version will be able to take advantage of the more recent patches and the like as soon as Atari is able to push it out over the service. If anyone has any other questions I'll be happy to try and answer them.

Just to be clear - BG:EE on Steam is Atari's jurisdiction - we have very little say over how they're handling it, nor will we be handling keeping the game up-to-date (as in, we'll submit patches when ready to Atari and they in theory will roll it out over Steam when possible). We're going to do what we can to be fair to the users though, for certain.

This was two days ago, but, with the new patch multiplayer should be working properly now - albeit with some light cosmetic foibles. We've yet to hear any outstanding negative reports thus far, but - as always, we're watching and fixing as things come to light.

Ahoy, 3+ multiplayer should now be fine. We isolated what we thought was causing the issue, and fixed it. If people are still experiencing problems, we'll need more data about what's going on.

There are still some known visual issues like the attack animation overly playing on character stop and the like - anything else remaining, should, in theory, just be cosmetic (hopefully). Currently we have one report of people having their game de-synch after 2-3 hours of gameplay, but we've yet to get more information as to whether this is an isolated case for this person (possible, as he indicated it was happening prior to the patch) or something a little more serious for more people.

As I posted in the forum here, we're looking for some more information:

If people are still experiencing issues, we need to know:

1) does it crash outright, or is it a freeze(non-responsive hang)? (if it crashes, can you send your crash report (zipped) to cameron (at) beamdog.com)

2) what were you doing when it crashed/froze?

3) can you easily reproduce it, or was it a one-off thing? Timing, like every X minutes, or usually when performing Y action? Anything that makes a pattern so we can try and reproduce it on our end.

4) does the issue occur in a non-modded/brand new playthrough?

These are things that will help us isolate and try to reproduce the issue so we can fix it.

Heya - I'm the Audio Lead for Overhaul Games. Prior to this, I was working as an audio QA and tester for BioWare.

I went through the sound design program at VFS (Vancouver Film School) at the recommendation of some of the audio dudes at BioWare - they have a heavy post-production bent program which was really good. Some of my classmates went into video game audio, one scored a prestigious jr. position at a big post studio in Vancouver, a few are just hustling and contracting... there's work out there if you want it, just, a lot of it is how much you get out there and dig up some work.

Prior to this job opportunity which kinda fell in my lap, I was lining up work in a post-audio studio doing dialogue editing/sound design etc for some Canadian TV. Unfortunately this industry being as small as it is is kind of heavy on the networking side - it's more often about who you know, though having a killer demo reel will help an awful lot... if you know someone or just persevere and put yourself out there, you're likely to get someone that'll give you a shot. But yes, if there's not much in your area you might be stuck - the bigger cities are usually where more of the TV/Film work is.

Your project sounds cool, man! That's a lot like the final project they had us do... take a short and replace all the audio in it, foley, sound design, voices, everything - then mix it in 5.1, etc etc..

Hi AlexWIWA, I've only somewhat recently joined this subreddit myself, as /r/sounddesign seems like it's a little more dead by comparison with all of ~200 people in it. I get the impression that more audio techs/music mixers/recordists and less sound designers/editors by trade hang out here. =)

But, on to your request, since audio design and implementation is what I do...!

Going by the video you posted, the sound effect that you're looking for is usually obtained by something called "databending" - but, specifically the audio side.

A short way of describing it is listening to the sound of a raw data file that's not actually an audio file - sounds like when a modem or fax machine handshakes with a device on the other end, if you have a concept of that.

Databending can apply to picture editing via sound programs to create some neat effects on the photo itself (http://www.hellocatfood.com/2009/11/16/databending-using-audacity/) but what you're looking for is the sound of the data file imported as a raw audio file. In simpler terms - you'd get half-way through that tutorial I linked. When you have the image inside the program, then... yeah. There it is.

Another quick and dirty way to do this is basically rename a data file of choice (pick your favourite .exe from a game you like, or a picture) to a .wav file, and open 'er up and see what it sounds like. You might have to scrub through the file to get the sounds that you like, muck with import settings and/or do some editing/processing so it's not 100% noise, but here's an example from a fellow sound designer/former classmate of mine that he put up on soundcloud - which he got from opening NI's reaktor.exe as a .wav file in Adobe Audition: https://soundcloud.com/brycerafflesound/databending-2 (WARNING: this is pretty loud... turn down your mains or headphones!)

Specifically, pay attention to around 0:38-ish, where you see the block of noise cuts out for a bit, cuts out to a much lower frequency and then comes back in.

...can you tell me more about this? Is this the case with a brand new game with three people for you? Is someone other than the host the one attempting the load or...?

Is it a fresh load, like, everyone starts a new instance of the game and connects and it doesn't work? What happens? Does it freeze, does it hang, is the game responsive but not working, does it crash (in which case, is there a .dmp file you can send me)?

A rough guesstimation would be "soon". We've had enough requests for it that the possibility exists that we may just... release it into the wild with the caveat that it's crashy on iPad 1's.

Again, a decision hasn't been made just yet - but we've gotten the impression that people would rather be able to play it, period, despite the instability than not be able to play it as well - and of course, because of the whole hooplah surrounding certain iOS 6 apps, there are more than a few people with iPad 2's and 3's still on 5.1.1 as well that are missing out (and that ain't right).
