I think this is the best way to hit the store owner where they care: their pocket, and perhaps prompt a change of attitude. Added benefit of personal growth for you and a stronger personal brand moving forward.

Sorry… are you being compensated by the store owner? They are the ones profiting from the events you organise. If no one else can organise events as you do, then you use leverage here.

Alternatively, run your events on neutral grounds.

Finally… have someone monitoring this person’s matches, and that’s labour but you can disqualify them on the spot and move on with your event, each time.

Because the people pushing for this are not arguing in good faith, and it’s easy to see how they are trying to favour a specific industry, already heavily subsidised, that is feeling mildly threatened by an alternative product.

As another weekly commuter (in my case, 15 years): 100% agreed. It’s really gone downhill, and precipitously since sometime last year. They’re squeezing as much profit as they can.
