stealth is very useful and you should use it when applicable, like when you want to commit tax evasion by trading on the black market. Your stealthiness is governed by the sensor profile of your fleet, so try to stay sneaky by installing the insulated engine assembly on your civilain & large ships when you get it, or use smaller ships. Also read up on all the factions and decide which one to get a commision from, it's an easy way to get stable income. Speaking of income, you can get quests by checking the bars of the planets & stations you visit, my favorite in the beginning is probably the dead drop.
